HB 300, known as "Interscholastic Youth Sports Brain Injury Prevention Act" was signed yesterday by Governor Jay Nixon.

Of primary importance to coaches regarding this legislation: If an athlete is SUSPECTED of having a head injury he is to be removed from practice or compeition immediately.

You can read the bill in its entirety here: Missouri HB 300

Coaches, please educate yourself on the symptoms of concussions. If your school does not currently have a plan in place for recognising and assessing potential head injuries we encourage you to consider employing principles established in the Zurich Statement and through the SCAT2 tools. The MFCA has these items available for your use.

It is advised for coaches to share this information with your athletic directors and principals.
