Also finishing in double figures for St. Charles West were Jeremy Percy (17) and Blake Whiteside (10). Jackson Jewkes led Fort Zumwalt West with 16 points, while Steven Harris finished with 14 and Brandon Graham added 11. The leading rebounder for Fort Zumwalt West was Dominique Barmore (8) St. Charles West (5-5) travels to Warrenton on Friday, January 8 at 7 p.m. Fort Zumwalt West (5-4) will host Hazelwood East on Wednesday, January 6 at 6:30 p.m. 12/28 - 2:00 PM - Lafayette topped University City 55-45 Monday at Meramec CC. Michael Messer led the way for Lafayette with 20 points. Travon Williams was the leading scorer for University City with 12 points. The leading rebounder for Lafayette was Aareon Smith (10). The leading rebounder for University City was Demond Tillman (8) Lafayette (4-5) plays at home against Oakville on Tuesday, January 5 at 7 p.m. University City (3-6) will host Webster Groves on Tuesday, January 5 at 5:30 p.m. 12/28 - 4:00 PM - CBC 69, Parkway West 39: The fourth-seeded Cadets (8-2) had five players in double figures, led by Ryan Pierson's 14 points, as they handed the fifth-seeded Longhorns (6-1) their first loss of the season. CBC got 11 points from Darion Rackley and had 10 points apiece from Cory McArthy, Danny Chastian and Dominic Kacich. Dwayne Henderson-Murphy led Parkway West with 11 points. "We knew they would have a little bit of difficulty guarding us," CBC coach Bob McCormack said. "We can spread it around with four guys averaging in double figures, which is hard to guard." 12/28 - 5:30 PM - Hazelwood Central 72, DeSmet 61: The undefeated and No. 1 seed Hawks got a scare from the ninth-seeded Spartans when they trailed by four points with 2 minutes left before Central pulled out the win. "DeSmet's an awfully good club," Hazelwood Central coach Josh Martin said. "They made a lot of plays. They made it tough on us. We were one and down on a lot of trips; we missed some easy ones as well. We had breakdowns on both sides of the ball but we overcame it and fought all the way through." Hazelwood Central (9-0), ranked second among area large schools, was led by Jordan Wilson (21 points), Brian Walker (18) and Chris Babbitt (15 points, 10 rebounds). The Hawks will play CBC in the semifinals at 7 p.m. today. DeSmet (4-6) got 20 points from Teddy Corwin. 12/28 - 7:00 PM - Third-seeded McCluer trailed sixth-seeded Vianney by one point with 90 seconds left in Monday's quarterfinal game at the Meramec Holiday Basketball Tournament. But the Comets were able to take back the lead on a Deaires Tate tip-in with 1:18 remaining and secure a 48-43 come-from-behind victory with defense and free throws in the final seconds to advance to today's semifinals. "All we've been talking about all week is our defensive effort," McCluer coach Erwin Claggett said. "That was one of those games where that's what it came down to." The No. 7 team in the Post-Dispatch large-school rankings, McCluer (5-1) will play either top-ranked and second-seeded Webster Groves or Troy in the semifinals at 8:30 p.m. today. Tate finished with a team-high 14 points and 10 rebounds for McCluer, while sophomore Leon Watkins had 11 points. Jack Voelker led Vianney (7-4) with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore Tony Cochran added 10 points. 12/28 - 8:30 PM - Webster Groves topped visiting Troy Buchanan 75-63 Monday. Derrick Dilworth led Webster Groves with 18 points, while Cortez Conners finished with 16 and Jason Meehan added 15. Neil Branham led the way for Troy Buchanan with 25 points and Cullen Devins added 12.
