The MCHS Boy's golf team has really done well during the last couple of weeks. On Thursday September 10, the golf team traveled to Morgan County to bring home a well deserved victory. The Wildcats made a one stroke win over the Cougars 182 to 183 with the help of Nick Vance, who has recently returned from an injury. Coach Brian Adkins stated, "Nick did extremely well on his return to the course. He is still weak from not getting to o anything for almost four weeks, but is dedicated enough to work hard and end the season in top form." Keenan Hacker made a fifteen-foot birdie to bring the victory for the Cats. Adkins said "his name is beginning to be "Clutch" among the players because he is stepping up and making the big putts when they are needed." Hacker led with a match low score of 38 and was followed by Seth Brewer with 43, Randy Smith with 47, and Vance with 54. Cullen Hacker also chipped in for the Cats. The team also competed the following Monday, September 14, in Flemingsburg at the EKC Qualifier. There were six teams fighting for the win and the Cats barely missed the 169 score needed to move on in EKC by shooting a 184. Although the team may not have made it, one Wildcat, Keenan Hacker, did make the EKC tournament as an individual. Hacker's score of 44 sent him to a one-hole play of with the representative from from Nicholas County. Hacker's drive landed in the middle of the fairway, his opponent's went just left of it. Both Hacker and his opponent landed their second shots off the green. With both third shots only five feet from the hole, and his competitor successfully sank their shots. Once again Hacker led with a 44, with Seth Brewer and Randy Smith both shooting a 46. Nick Vance who was much improved shot a 48. Mr. Adkins said, "I am really proud of these young men. They are working so hard and improving everyday. We are young right now, but next year we are going to make a run at both the All A and region titles."
