Win vs Orchard Farm 60-34

January 4, 2012
By Jessie Cobb of Montgomery County High School

Last night the Lady Wildcats hosted Orchard Farm Lady Eagles in an EMO conference game.  The Lady Wildcats started with 3 fast baskets before Orchard Farm scored.  With great pressure defense and good defensive movement the Lady Wildcats held Orchard Farm to 5 points in the first quarter.  The Lady Wildcats scored 16 points in the first quarter with Brandy Reagan scoring 10 points.  In the second quarter the Lady Wildcats did not slow down.  They continued to push the ball  up the court and Orchard Farm was having trouble stopping Rachel Miller attacking the basket.  At half the score was 35-16.

The second half got off to a slow start by the Lady Wildcats.  They only scored 7 points and had some trouble with Orchard Farm's 2-3 zone (pressure on the wings).  As soon as the Lady Wildcats got confident in attacking the zone the scoring increased. The Lady Wildcats won 60-35.  They had great ball movement on offense to get the ball to the open teammate.  On defense, the Lady Wildcats applied pressure but most importantly gave Orchard Farm one opportunity to score.

The Lady Wildcats finished the game shooting 57% from the floor, 65% at the line, had 15 assists, and 9 tunrovers.   They held Orchard Farm to 26% field goal percentage. Brandy Reagan led the Lady Wildcats wit 29 points (11 for 18 from the line) and 10 rebounds.  Courtney Thomas had 10 points and 6 rebounds.  Rachel Miller had 8 points and 8 assist.  Amy Muchow had 5 points, Mackenzie Yager had 4 points and 5 assist, Makayla Yager and Danielle Schmidt had 2 points each.

The Lady Wildcats play again on Thursday at South Callaway and next week in the South Callaway Tournament.
