Basketball - I Did Not Forget About You!
December 14, 2011
By John Klekamp of Montgomery County High SchoolWelcome to the basketball quote edition . . . please read the following carefully, "I can do something physically the other guy can't. I know the other guy has not dedicated himself the way I did." This quote is from the Utah Jazz great and Future NBA Hall of Famer, Karl Malone.
If you know much about Karl Malone, you know that he was a scrawny kid in high school and became a very dominating physical precense in the NBA. Karl Malone played the majority of his NBA career in Utah, which for those of you who do not know is the headquarters for BFS (our current strength and conditioning program at Montgomery County). In fact, the founder of BFS Dr. Gary Shepard spent time working as the strength and conditioning coach for the Utah Jazz.
Basketball season is in full swing and we have 30 athletes participating in the boys basketball program. The question is how many of them are working, I mean dedicating themselves to be able to do something physically that their opponents can't? The simple answer is about 6 out of that 30. One our team's recent losses came to a team that can lay claim that 90% of their basketball players lift in-season.
For you guys - I am in the weight room on Tues and Thur mornings at 6:30 am. I hope to see you soon!
