Lady Wildcats vs. Elsberry

December 8, 2011
Montgomery County High School

LADY WILDCATS EARN A WIN

The Montgomery County R-2 Lady Wildcats basketball team had only one game last week and they won easily, defeating Elsberry 50-13 last Monday, December 6, in an East Missouri (EMO) Conference game.  With this win the Lady Wildcats have an overall record of 2 wins and 2 losses and a 1-0 EMO Conference record.

The Lady Wildcats wasted no time taking control of the game as they outscored Elsberry 14-0 in the first quarter.  They outscored Elsberry 14-7 in the second quarter to lead 28-7 at halftime, and they didn’t slow down in the third quarter as they outscored Elsberry 15-5 in the third quarter to lead 43-12.  The clock ran continuously in the fourth quarter (due to the “30 point or more lead mercy rule”) so there wasn’t as much scoring, but R-2 still outscored Elsberry 7-1 to win the game 50-13.  R-2’s defense caused 26 turnovers by Elsberry and held Elsberry’s shooting percentage to 10%.

Brandy Reagan led R-2 in scoring with 19 points (5 field goals/FGs and 9 free throws/FTs).  She was followed in the scoring by Rachel Miller with 9 points (4 FGs/1 FT), Courtney Thomas with 8 points (3 FGs/2 FTs), Amy Muchow and Mackenzie Yager with 6 points each (3 FGs each), and Makayla Yager with 2 points (1 FG).  Danielle Schmidt and Emily O’Keefe also played in the game but did not score.

In other key stats Reagan led the team in rebounds with 17, while Miller led the team in assists with 8 and steals with 6.  Muchow also had 3 steals, while Reagan and Mackenzie Yager had 2 steals each.

This week the Lady Wildcats will play their first two “road” games of the season, as they traveled to Bowling Green (EMO Conference game) on Monday, December 13, and then to Fulton (non-conference game) on Wednesday, December 15.  The Jr. Varsity will play first both nights (at 6:00 p.m.), followed by the Varsity game.  Reports on these games should be in next week’s Standard.

They will have 2 more games next week, before the Christmas Break starts.  On Monday, December 19, they will play the second game of a triple-header (with the Varsity and Jr. Varsity boys’ teams) at Wright City (EMO Conference game).  The JV boys’ game will start at 5:00 p.m.  On Tuesday, December 20, the Lady Wildcats will host New Haven (non-conference game).  The JV girls’ game will start at 6:00 p.m.

The Lady Wildcats and their coaches encourage you to attend their games and cheer them on to victory.  Go Lady Wildcats!
