Missouri Football Coach's Association All-State Team
December 8, 2011By John Klekamp of Montgomery County High School
At the end of every sports season, players patiently await word if they have recieved post season awards for their efforts. There is always discussion about who is deserving and the level of competition that their team played against. Players get excited about the possibility of the recognition and the new patches that they may recieve on their letter jackets.
The 2011 Montgomery County Football Team was fortunate to have good representation in our EMO All-Conference Team, 11 players and 12 positions represented, and on the MSSA East Central All-District Team, 10 players and 11 positions represented. The most prestigous award that can come from the state of Missouri would arguably be the making the Missouri Football Coach's Association All-State Team.
There are two different All-State Teams, one voted on by the media in the state of Missouri and one voted on by the football coaches from around the state. The Missouri Football Coach's Association meets every year on the first weekend of December and coaches from all over the state from all classifications from 1 through 6 attend this meeting. The coaches discuss hundreds of players that are nominated from all over the state in each of the six classifications.
This year we are pleased to announce that we had two players that were selected to this team. Although there may have been several other players on the team that may have been deserving, these two young men were voted to the Missouri Football Coach's All-State 3rd Team. Congrats to Luther Harris for he tremendous season as a kick-off returner and being awarded 3rd Team All-State Returner. Congrats to Dakota Smith for his leadership through out the season, his efforts on the defensive side of the ball and being awarded 3rd Team All-State Defensive Back.
