LADY WILDCATS’ PLAY TWO GAMES LAST WEEK
The Montgomery County R-2 Lady Wildcats played 2 games last week and lost both of them. On Monday, December 9, they hosted and lost to Orchard Farm 47-23. Then on Thursday, December 12, they traveled to Warrenton and lost 60-31. With these games the Lady Wildcats’ record is 1 win and 5 losses.
ORCHARD FARM GAME
The Lady Wildcats and Orchard Farm had a close, low-scoring first quarter, as OF made 3 field goals (FGs) for 6 points while the Lady Wildcats made 1 field goal and 3 of 4 free throws (FTs) to trail OF 6-5 at the end of the quarter. The second quarter was almost as close, as OF outscored Montgomery County 12-8 to lead the Lady Wildcats 18-13 at halftime.
However, the second half belonged to Orchard Farm. The Lady Eagles outscored the Lady Wildcats 13-4 in the third quarter to take a 31-17 lead. Then in the fourth quarter OF outscored the Lady Wildcats 16-6 to win the game 47-23.
Emily O’Keefe led the Lady Wildcats in scoring with 8 points (4 FGs). She was followed in the scoring by Delaney Benney and Hope Eoff with 4 points each (Benney 2 FGs, Eoff 1 FG/2 of 2 FTs); Jessica Dryden with 3 points (3 of 5 FTs); and Anna Ash and Victoria Weitkamp with 2 points each (1 FG each). Sammie Korte and Viv Worsham also played, but did not score.
The first and third quarters were the undoing of the Lady Wildcats’ in this game. They scored 11 points in the first quarter, but allowed Warrenton to score 23 points to trail by 12 at the end of the quarter. The second quarter was much better for the Lady Wildcats, as they held Warrenton to 8 points while scoring 7 points themselves to make the halftime score 31-18.
The third quarter was like the first quarter, as Warrenton outscored the Lady Wildcats 21-6 to lead 52-24 at the end of the quarter. The fourth quarter was like the second quarter for both teams, as Warrenton outscored the Lady Wildcats 8-7 to make the final 60-31.
Eoff led the Lady Wildcats in scoring in this game with 10 points (4 FGs/2 of 2 FTs). She was followed in the scoring by Benney with 7 points (2 FGs/3 of 4 FTs); Dryden, and O’Keefe with 5 points each (Dryden 1 FG/3 of 6 FTs, and O’Keefe with 2 FGs/1 of 3 FTs); and Ash with 4 points (2 FGs). Korte, Weitkamp, and Worsham also played in the game, but did not score.
The Lady Wildcats play their first 2 East Missouri (EMO) Conference games this week. On Monday, December 16, they hosted Bowling Green. On Thursday, December 19, they will play at Wright City. The Jr. Varsity game will start at 5:30 p.m. and the Varsity game will start around 7:00.
The Lady Wildcats will not have any games for 2 weeks during the Christmas Break. They will start the 2014 part of the season (along with the Varsity Boys team) with a home game against Van-Far (EMO Conference games) on January 3, Friday. There will be 4 games played with Van-Far that night. The Varsity teams will play at the High School gym (Girls’ first, Boys’ second), while the JV teams will play at the Montgomery City Elementary gym (Boys’ first, Girls’ second). The first games at both gyms will start at 6:00 p.m., and the second games will start at 7:30.
