LADY WILDCATS’ VOLLEYBALL SEASON ENDS WITH DISTRICT TOURNAMENT LOSS
The Montgomery County R-2 Lady Wildcats’ Volleyball 2013 season ended with a loss in a First Round Game in the Missouri Class 2-District 6 Tournament last Monday, October 28. They played Centralia and lost the match 2 sets to 0 (25-18 and 25-12).
In the first set the Lady Wildcats only scored a point on 1 of its first 6 service turns. Meanwhile, Centralia scored 1-3 points on 4 of its first 6 service turns to take a 14-7 lead.
The Lady Wildcats then got back into the set by scoring 1-3 points on their next 4 service turns, while keeping Centralia from scoring on its next 4 service turns to close the score to 18-17. The Lady Wildcats best service turn was a 3-point serve by Sierra Kolan. Unfortunately, Centralia outscored the Lady Wildcats 7-1 the rest of the way and won the first set 25-18.
The second set was close early, as Centralia only led 7-5 after the first 3 service turns for each team. Centralia then scored 1-5 points on 5 of its last 6 service turns, while the Lady Wildcats scored only 1 point on 1 of their last 6 service turns. As a result Centralia won the set 25-12, and the match 2 sets to 0.
The individual stats for the Lady Wildcats in this match were as follows:
Kills/Spikes At The Net – Karlie Schmidt 5; Kolan 2; Emily Johnson, Caroline Shaw, and Tori Van Doren 1 each.
Service Aces – Victoria Weitkamp and Van Doren 1 each.
Blocks At Net – Kolan 1 solo block.
Digs – Van Doren 8; Anna Ash 6; Sophie Teeter, Johnson and Weitkamp 4 each; Schmidt 3; Christina Ferguson 2; and Kolan 1.
Assists – Weitkamp 7; and Ash 3.
With this loss the Lady Wildcats 2013 season came to an end. They ended the season with a record of 5 wins, 20 losses and 1 tie. They will lose 4 Seniors from this team, including Emily Johnson, Jessie Paddon, Caroline Shaw and Sophie Teeter.
However, the Lady Wildcats look for better things in 2014, as they will return 7 players who either started or had significant playing time this season. These players include Anna Ash, Christina Ferguson, Sierra Kolan, Kayla Knipfel, Karlie Schmidt, Tori Van Doren and Victoria Weitkamp.
