FOOTBALL WILDCATS IMPROVE TO 6-0
WITH 44-8 WIN OVER VAN-FAR
The Montgomery County R-2 Wildcats Football team remains undefeated for the 2013 season, as they scored 44 points in the first half to defeat a young, inexperienced Van-Far team 44-8 last Friday, October 4. With this win the Wildcats improved their record to 6 wins and 0 losses.
This was also an East Missouri (EMO) Conference game, giving the Wildcats a 4-0 Conference record. With this win the Wildcats secured at least a tie for the Conference Championship, as they have only 1 conference game left to play (this Friday against Bowling Green) and all of the other conference teams have lost at least 1 conference game.
Van-Far got the ball to start the game, but the Wildcats defense did not allow V-F to get a first down. V-F punted the ball to the Wildcats and they got the ball on their own 48-yard line. It took only 4 plays for the Wildcats to score a touchdown, as Dylan Skeens scored on a 24-yard run. Luke Longstreet kicked the extra point to give the Wildcats a 7-0 lead with 8:10 left in the first quarter.
The Van-Far kick return man bobbled the ball on the following kick-off, and fell on the ball at the V-F 6-yard line. On the next play the V-F runner fumbled the ball back into the end zone, which led to a safety to give the Wildcats a 9-0 lead with 7:20 left in the quarter.
The rest of the half was the Wildcats’ offense scoring a touchdown, and the Wildcats’ defense forcing V-F to punt after only 3 plays on offense. The Wildcats second touchdown came on a 12-yard pass from Evan Milner to Jerad Jordan (4-play drive). Longstreet kicked the extra point to make the score 16-0 with 5:15 left in the first quarter.
The Wildcats scored their third touchdown on a 14-yard run by Zeke Theissen (4-play drive), with 1:37 left in the first quarter. Longstreet kicked the extra point to make the score 23-0. Their first touchdown of the second quarter came on a 27-yard run by Kyle Kroll (5-play drive). Longstreet kicked the extra point to make the score 30-0 with 7:50 left in the first half.
The Wildcats next touchdown came on a 7-yard run by Milner (6-play drive) with 3:30 left in the half. Longstreet kicked the extra point to make the score 37-0. Their final touchdown came on a 61-yard pass play from Milner to Longstreet with 25 seconds left in the half. Longstreet kicked the extra point to give the Wildcats a 44-0 lead, which was the halftime score.
Wildcat Head Coach John Klekamp did a great deal of substituting in the second half. The Wildcats subs have played well this season when called upon, but they just couldn’t get much of anything going on offense this time and did not score. Van-Far was finally able to score a touchdown late in the game and converted the 2-point extra point attempt to make the final score 44-8.
The Wildcats offensive stats were as follows: 186 yards rushing on 33 carries; 6 of 7 passes completed for 137 yards and 0 interception; 16 first downs; 8 penalties for 47 yards; and 2 turnovers (fumbles lost). The Van-Far offensive stats were not available for this report.

The Wildcats have another very important game this Friday, October 11, as they play Bowling Green in an EMO Conference game at Jim Blacklock Field at Montgomery County R-2 High School. The game will start at 7:00 p.m.
A Wildcats victory will give the Wildcats the outright EMO Conference Championship. This would be their first Conference Championship since the 2008 season.
The Wildcat players and coaches strongly encourage you to come to Friday’s game and support them. This should be a very exciting and the stands should be packed with fans from both teams. Best wishes to the Wildcats as you face Bowling Green on Friday!
