SOCCER WILDCATS PLAY 3 MATCHES LAST WEEK
The Montgomery County R-2 Wildcats Soccer team played 3 home matches last week. On Monday, September 30, they lost to Boonville 4-1. On Tuesday, October 1, they lost to Battle (new high school in Columbia) 5-0. On Thursday, October 3, they lost to Canton 7-1.
The Wildcats fell behind early in this match. They did have more shots on goal than Boonville did in the second half (10-1) and for the match (18-11), but they did not recover from Boonville’s 3 goals in the first half.
Boonville scored their first goal at the 14:48 mark of the first half (45 minute halves). Boonville scored their next 2 goals at the 20:47 mark and the 31:17 mark to lead 3-0 at halftime.
The Wildcats closed the score to 3-1, when Jacob Cunningham scored a goal at the 15:26 mark of the second half. However, Boonville scored a goal at the 21:28 mark. Neither team scored the rest of the match and Boonville won the match 4-1.
Playing against the newest high school in Columbia, the Wildcats fell behind early and were unable to come back. Battle scored their first goal at the 4:27 mark of the first half. The Wildcats’ defense held strong for most of the rest of the first half, but gave up a goal at the 30:18 mark of the half. The Wildcats had 4 shots on goal in the first half, but did not score and trailed 2-0 at halftime.
Battle was able to come up with 3 quick goals in the second half to put the match away. The first goal came at the 3:09 mark of the half, followed by goals at the 11:33 mark and the 20:55 mark. The Wildcats only had 3 shots on goal in the second half, and Battle won the match 5-0.
This match was close for most of the first half, as the score was tied at 1-1 at the 30-minute mark. However, Canton scored 2 goals late in the first half and 4 goals in the second half to win the match 7-1.
Canton scored the first goal of the match at the 10:10 mark of the half. The Wildcats came back to tie the score at 1-1, on a goal by Cunningham at the 14:38 mark. The score stayed that way until Canton scored their second goal at the 33:49 mark, and another goal at the 36:17 mark to lead 3-1 at halftime. The Wildcats had 6 shots on goal in the first half.
Canton scored their first goal of the second half at the 3:00 mark. This was followed by goals at the 17:00 mark, the 31:55 mark, and the 32:25 mark. The Wildcats had 8 shots on goal in the second half but did not score, and Canton won the match 7-1.
The Wildcats have only 1 match this week. They will host Elsberry this Thursday, October 10, starting at 5:00 p.m.
Next week the Wildcats have 2 matches, and a 2-match tournament scheduled. On Monday, October 14, they will play at Winfield, with the match starting at 4:30. On Thursday, October 17, they will play at Canton, with the match starting at 4:00.
On Saturday, October 19, they will play in the Mexico Tournament. They will play Chillicothe in their first match, starting at 11:00 a.m. They will then play either Mexico or Elsberry. If they lose the first match, they will play for Third Place at 2:00 p.m. If they win the first match, they will play for the tournament Championship at 4:00 p.m.
