SB LADY WILDCATS WIN 1 LOSE 2
In addition to winning Second Place in the Wildcat Fall Classic on September 28, the Montgomery County R-2 Lady Wildcats Softball team played 3 games the week previous to the Classic. All of the games were East Missouri (EMO) Conference games, and the Lady Wildcats won 1 and lost 2.
On September 24, the Lady Wildcats defeated Community R-VI 16-0. On Wednesday, September 25, they lost 10-0 to North Callaway (make-up game that was postponed on September 16). On September 26, they lost to Silex 5-3.
With these games the Lady Wildcats have an overall record of 8 wins and 6 losses. Their EMO Conference record is 3-5.
The following is a report on these games.
COMMUNITY R-VI GAME
The Lady Wildcats took care of business quickly in this game, as they scored all 16 runs in the first 2 innings, while holding R-VI to just 2 singles in their 3 innings of batting. The game ended after the top of the third inning due to the “mercy rule”, in which the game is stopped because a team is leading the game by 15 or more runs after the third inning (the Lady Wildcats did not need to bat in the bottom of the third).
Miah Klekamp started the bottom of the first inning with a single. Shelby Miles was then hit by a pitch, and Shelby Roark reached base on a walk to load the bases. Corryn Hill hit a single to score Klekamp. With one out Cayleigh Lively singled to score Miles and Roark, and Hill scored on an error to make the score 4-0. Tayler Lauer reached base with a walk, and then Adrianna Reese doubled to score Lively and Lauer to make the score 6-0. A single by Danielle Robinson scored Reese to make the score 7-0 after the first inning of play.
Roark started the second inning with a walk, which was followed by a single by Hill and a walk to Payten LaBrier to load the bases. Roark and Hill scored on a double by Lively, then LaBrier and Lively scored on a single by Lauer to make the score 11-0. Lauer’s hit was followed by a walk to Reese, then Lauer scored on a single by Robinson to make the score 12-0. Klekamp doubled to score Reese, making the score 13-0. Miles was hit by a pitch, which loaded the bases once again for the Lady Wildcats. Robinson scored on a walk to Roark, and Klekamp scored on a single by Hill. Miles scored later in the inning to finish out the scoring, and the Lady Wildcats won 16-0.
The individual offensive stats for the Lady Wildcats were as follows: Klekamp 2 hits, 2 runs scored, 1 run batted in/RBIs; Miles 2 hits, 1 run scored; Roark 2 runs scored; Hill 3 hits, 2 runs scored, 2 RBIs; LaBrier 1 run scored; Lively 2 hits, 2 runs scored, 4 RBIs; Lauer 1 hit, 2 runs scored, 2 RBIs; and Reese 1 hit, 2 runs scored, 2 RBIs; and Robinson 2 hits, 1 run scored, 2 RBIs.
Hill pitched 3 innings for the Lady Wildcats and earned the win. She did not allow any runs. She gave up 2 hits and struck out 4 batters, with no walks.
NORTH CALLAWAY GAME
The Lady Wildcats found themselves on the other end of things the following afternoon, as they lost 10-0 to an excellent North Callaway team (a 12-0 record coming into this game). Neither team scored in the first inning, although both teams had a runner get into scoring position in the inning.
North Callaway scored 2 runs in the top of the second inning, taking advantage of a double, 2 walks, a wild pitch and a stolen base to lead 2-0. NC scored 2 more runs in the top of the third by taking advantage of 2 Lady Wildcat errors, combined with a double to lead 4-0.
Neither team scored in the fourth inning, but NC took advantage of 2 more Lady Wildcat errors, combined with 2 singles in the top of the fifth to score 3 runs to lead 7-0. NC then scored 3 more runs in the top of the sixth inning, combining 4 hits with another R-2 error and a sacrifice fly ball to lead 10-0.
The Lady Wildcats did not score in the bottom of the sixth inning, and the game ended because of the “mercy rule” (a team has a 10-run lead after 5 innings of play). The only offense the Lady Wildcats had in this game was a double by Lively, a walk to Roark, and Klekamp was hit by a pitch.
Hill pitched 5 innings for the Lady Wildcats and took the loss. She allowed 7 runs (3 earned), on 6 hits, 3 walks, and 5 Lady Wildcat errors. She struck out 2 batters.
Miles pitched 1 inning for the Lady Wildcats. She allowed 3 runs (all earned) on 4 hits, 1 walk, and 1 Lady Wildcat error. She did not strike out any batters.
Silex batted first and scored a run in the top of the first inning on a home run to lead 1-0. However, the Lady Wildcats came back in the bottom of the first inning, as Miles reached base on a single and Roark hit a 2-run home run to give the Lady Wildcats a 2-1 lead.
Neither team scored over the next 3 innings, although the Lady Wildcats had two runners reach base in the second and third innings. After holding Silex scoreless again in the top of the fifth inning, the Lady Wildcats increased their lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth. Miles reached base again, after getting hit by a pitch. She then scored on a double by Hill.
Unfortunately the Lady Wildcats would not score the rest of the game, while Silex scored 2 runs in the top of the sixth inning to tie the game at 3-3 and scored 2 runs in the top of the seventh to go ahead and with the game 5-3.
Silex scored their 2 runs in the sixth inning, by combining a Lady Wildcat error with 2 doubles to tie the score at 3-3. Then in the seventh inning Silex scored 2 more runs on a walk, a double, and 2 singles to make the score 5-3. The Lady Wildcats did get a runner on base in the bottom of the seventh, but that was it and Silex won the game 5-3.
The individual offensive stats for the Lady Wildcats were as follows: Miles 1 hit, 2 runs scored; Roark 1 hit/a home run, 1 run scored, 2 RBIs; Hill 1 hit, 1 RBI; Lauer 1 hit; and Reese 1 hit.
Hill pitched all 7 innings for the Lady Wildcats and took the loss. She allowed 5 runs (3 earned), 7 hits, 2 walks and 3 errors. She struck out 9 batters.
The Lady Wildcats also played 2 games last week – Bowling Green on Tuesday, October 1; New Haven on Thursday, October 3; and 1 game this week – Louisiana on Monday, October 7. In addition they played in the EMO Conference Tournament this past Saturday, October 5, in which they could have played anywhere from 1-4 games. No information was available on these games when this report was written.
MISSOURI DISTRICT 11 TOURNAMENT THIS WEEK
