VOLLEYBALL LADY WILDCATS LOSE 2013 SEASON OPENER
The Montgomery County R-2 Lady Wildcats’ Volleyball 2013 season started last Wednesday, September 4, with a match at Warrenton. The Lady Wildcats did not have a successful beginning, as they lost the match 2 games to 0 (10-25 and 7-25).
The first game did not start well for the Lady Wildcats, as Warrenton scored the first 5 points, and nothing improved from that point. The Lady Wildcats had seven service possessions in this game, and were only able to score 1 point on two of those possessions. Meanwhile, Warrenton scored between 2-5 points on five of its seven service possessions. Warrenton won the game 25-10.
The second game wasn’t any better for R-2. The Lady Wildcats had six service possessions and again only scored 1 point on two of those possessions. On the other hand, Warrenton scored 12 points, 3 points, and 4 points, respectively, on its last three service possessions. Warrenton won the game 25-7, and the match 2 games to 0.
The individual stats for the Lady Wildcats in this match were as follows:
Service Aces – Karlie Schmidt 1.
Kills/Spikes At The Net – Sierra Kolan, Tori Van Doren, and Schmidt 2 each; and Emily Johnson and Anna Ash 1 each.
Assists – Ash 7.
Blocks At Net – None.
Digs – Van Doren 10; Ash 8; Sophie Teeter 7; Christina Ferguson and Johnson 5 each; and Kolan 2.
The Lady Wildcats’ season gets into full swing this week with two matches at the R-2 High School. On Tuesday, September 10, they will host Bowling Green. On Thursday, September 12, they will host New Haven. The Jr. Varsity match will be played first both nights, starting at 6:00 p.m. The Varsity match will follow the JV match. Reports on these matches will not be in the Standard until the September 25 issue.
The Lady Wildcats have a busier schedule next week, as they have two regular matches and then play in the Orchard Farm Tournament. The first match is at home on Tuesday, September 17, against Union. The JV match starts at 6:00 p.m., followed by the Varsity match. The second match is at Bowling Green on Thursday, September 19. The JV match starts at 5:30, followed by the Varsity match.
Then on Saturday, September 21, the Lady Wildcats will play in the Orchard Farm Tournament. Information about this tournament was not available when this report was written, but they will have matches throughout the morning and early afternoon that day.
