LADY WILDCATS VOLLEYBALL SEASON STARTS NEXT WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 4
The Montgomery County R-2 Lady Wildcats’ Volleyball teams open the 2013 season next Wednesday, September 5, with a match at Warrenton. The Jr. Varsity match will be first, starting at 5:30 p.m., which will be followed by the Varsity match.
Then on September 7, Saturday, the Jr. Varsity team will host and participate in the Montgomery County R-2 Jr. Varsity Tournament. Information concerning this tournament was not available when this report was written.
The following week the Lady Wildcats will have their first two matches at home. On Tuesday, September 10, they will host Bowling Green. Then on Thursday, September 12, they will host New Haven. On both nights the JV match will be first, starting at 6:00 p.m., with the Varsity match to follow.
The R-2 Volleyball Head Coach is Stephanie Finke, who is in her third year at this position. Her assistant coach is Megan Hollenbeck, who is in her fifth year in this position.
The Lady Wildcat Varsity squad will include the following players: Senior – Emily Johnson, Jessie Paddon, Caroline Shaw and Sophie Teeter; Juniors – Anna Ash, Christina Ferguson, Kayla Knipfel, Sierra Kolan and Tori Van Doren.
The Jr. Varsity team includes the following players: Sophomores – Carli Schmidt, Karli Shaw and Victoria Weitkamp; and Freshmen Lydia Bishop, Macy Block, Gabby Carter, Alexis Hornbeck, Kayla Koch, Audrey Mayes, Taylee Ripley and Casandra Waggoner.
Coach Finke has 7 Varsity players returning from the 2012 team, who either started or saw significant playing time last season (Johnson, Paddon, Shaw, Teeter, Ash, Kolan and Van Doren). With this returning experience, the hope and expectations for this season are that the Lady Wildcats will have a successful 2013 season.
Coach Finke made the following comment concerning the practices and preparation for the 2013 season: “We’ve had a great start to the year and the girls have been working hard. With the girls having been in this program system for 3 years, we have been able to jump into things a lot faster than we have in the past and I look forward to a successful season.”
The players and coaches hope you will come and support them, and cheer them to victory. Best wishes to the Lady Wildcats for a successful 2013 season.
