LADY WILDCATS’ 2013 SOFTBALL SEASON STARTS AUGUST 28
The Montgomery County R-2 Lady Wildcats’ Softball team begins the 2013 season next week with 2 regular games, and then 3 games in one day in the New Haven Tournament. The first game is a home game on Wednesday, August 28, against Father Tolton Catholic High School (from Columbia). The game will start at 5:00 p.m., at the Kiwanis Field (behind the HS/MS campus).
The Lady Wildcats will play at Hermann the next night, Thursday, August 29. The game will start at 4:30. They will then play the 3 games in the New Haven Tournament on Saturday, August 31. The first game will be at 9:00 a.m., against New Haven. The second game will be at 12:30 p.m., against either Linn or Bourbon. The time of their third game and their opponent will be determined by the results of their first two games.
Trent Crenshaw is the new Head Coach for the Lady Wildcats. He will be assisted by Audra Heimer. Coach Crenshaw comes to R-2 from Winfield High School, where he taught for 7 years and was the Head Baseball Coach for 5 years. During those 5 years his teams had a 95-27 record, won 4 East Missouri Conference titles and one team earned Second Place in the Missouri State Playoffs for 3A schools. Also, the past 2 years he served as an assistant baseball coach at Lindenwood University (St. Charles), while still teaching at Winfield.
This year’s team has 12 players, including: Seniors Payton LaBrier, Adrianna Reese and Shelby Roark; Juniors Miah Klekamp, Shelby Miles and Maggie Sarchette; Sophomores Taylor Lauer, Cayleigh Lively and Joanna Strube; and Freshmen Corryn Hill, Cassidy McCorkell and Danielle Robinson.
The 2013 Lady Wildcats and Coach Crenshaw will be trying to improve on last year’s performance, as the Lady Wildcats won their first game of the season and then lost 18 in a row. Coach Crenshaw will have 6 returning players (all starters) from that team, including Roark, LaBrier, Klekamp, Miles, Lauer and Lively. Roark earned EMO 2nd Team All-Conference honors, as well as being selected to the Missouri District 11 All-Tournament Team last season. Klekamp led the 2012 team in hitting, batting average and runs scored.
Coach Crenshaw made the following comment about the team and the upcoming season. “I could not be more excited about the challenges ahead. Most of the girls came in and worked very hard during our summer contact days and the first week of practice. We are definitely getting better and are close to turning the corner. Our team expectations and abilities are rising daily. I cannot praise my assistant coaches enough for their dedication and ability to teach the fundamentals”.
The Lady Wildcats and Coach Crenshaw hope you will be able to attend the games and support the girls as they work hard to have a successful 2013 season.
