2013 R-2 FOOTBALL WILDCATS OPEN SEASON AUGUST 30 AT HERMANN
The Montgomery County R-2 Wildcats’ Football team starts the 2013 season next Friday, August 30, as they travel to Hermann to play the Bearcats. The game will start at 7:00 p.m.
Also, this coming Friday, August 23, the Wildcats will travel to Hermann to play in the Preseason Jamboree, in which they will face Cuba, Wright City and Hermann in 24-play scrimmages (12 on offense/12 on defense) against each team. The Jamboree starts at 7:00.
John Klekamp is in his fourth year as the R-2 Head Coach. In his first three years the Wildcats have a record of 14 wins and 17 losses. His assistant coaches include Justin Graves, Josh Pierce, Nick Schubert, Darryl Rhoads, Joe Klekamp, Ryan Raterman, Greg Simmons and Sam Turner.
There are 63 young men listed on the Wildcats 2013 roster, including 19 Seniors, 9 Juniors, 16 Sophomores and 19 Freshmen. This number could change before the first game, but currently the players by class are as follows:
Seniors – Rodney Bernat, Jackson Bishop, Samuel Brounaugh, Ross Brower, Brian Davis, Jacob Davis, Codey Guile, Justin Hall, Aaron Henke, Jerad Jordan, Jake Kent, Luke Longstreet, Evan Milner, Tyler Peterson, Clayton Schlanker, Jac Schwartz, Clayton See, Dylan Skeens and Zeke Theissen.
Juniors – Tanner Cobb, Jacob Davenport, Jack Ecton, Beck Holtman, Kyle Kroll, Joey Moss, George Rodebaugh, Jacob Scarlet and Daven Sublette.
Sophomores – Lafe Arens, Logan Begeman, Eric Bettis, Jesse Esslinger, Nick Galarza, Nathan Hardcastle, Nathan Hess, Trevor Hollaway, Taylor Lewis, David Lobb, Will Lorson, Joseph McCormick, Dylan Miller, Isaac Oden, Brayden Rajchart, and Joey Schlueter.
Freshmen – Jacob Barr, Roman Bronaugh, Sage Brown, Koben Callaway, Hasten Camp, Christian Carlock, Colten Dorrell, Mark Ellington, Hunter Graf, Joe Greenwood, Jacob Harlan, Skyler Henson, James Kossman, Jeff Lovell, Seth Malone, TJ Proffitt, Tim Rose, Austin Schwab and Brendan Their.
The Wildcats, Coach Klekamp and his staff will be working to improve on last year’s record of 7 wins and 4 losses. This was the first winning season for the Wildcats since the 2008 season. They also finished second in the East Missouri (EMO) Conference standings with a 4-1 record.
It will certainly help that 13-15 players are returning from last year’s team who either started or saw significant playing time last season. Three of these players received EMO All-Conference and/or East Central Missouri All-District post-season honors for the 2012 season, including Bernat and Schlanker as offensive linemen, and Kent as a defensive end.
In his comments concerning the upcoming season, Coach Klekamp stated the following: “For the first time in over 15 years we have over 60 players in the R-2 High School football program. This depth will allow us to be more physical at practice, and should make practices much more competitive. This should help us be more successful in our games. We also return 3 full-time starters on the offensive line, with another player that was a part-time player for us on that offensive line. Our offensive success starts and ends with our play up-front.”
“Although the Montgomery County Football Program enjoyed a successful 2012 season, our motto is “never satisfied”. We need to be much more successful at consistently stopping the run and taking the ball away from our opponent’s offense. In the most of our losses last year, we did not compete very well and the end result was one-sided losses. We will work towards being competitive in every game, by winning the special teams battle and playing great defense.”
He also shared the following thoughts concerning the key to the overall success of the program, “The principles of Montgomery County Football are to be honest, do what’s right, and do your best. We believe that when we do these things we will be successful on the field, in the classroom, in our community, and most importantly in our lives.”
The Wildcat players and coaches hope you will attend the games to support the Wildcats and cheer them on to victory. Best wishes to the players and coaching staff for a successful 2013 season.
