R-2 GOLF TEAM PLAYED 3 MATCHES LAST WEEK

The Montgomery County R-2 Wildcat Golf team competed in 3 matches last week.  The first match was Monday, April 8, at the Innsbrook Golf Course.  The second match was at the Montgomery County Golf Club Tuesday, April 9.  Then Thursday, April 11, the Wildcats competed in the Warrenton Invitational Meet at the Warrenton Golf Course, in spite of all of the rain received on Wednesday night and early Thursday morning.

In Monday’s match the inexperienced Wildcats (only 1 golfer with any Varsity experience) almost defeated their first team of the 2013 season, but came up 4 strokes shy of doing so.  Elsberry won the 3-team match with a team score of 203 (based on the four best /lowest scores of the five golfers that compete for each team).  The host school, Wright City, finished second with a team score of 220, and the Wildcats finished third with a team score of 223.

Sophomore Jack Ecton (the only Wildcat golfer with any Varsity experience) had the lowest score for the Wildcats with a 48.  This score was the third best score of the 15 golfers who competed in the match.  Ecton had 1 par for the round of nine holes.  Ben Matthews was next for R-2 with a round of 54 (1 par), followed by Bryke Brengle with a 60, and Beck Holtman with a 61 (1 par). Ryan Biggs also played and shot a 65.

In Tuesday’s match the Wildcats hosted Fulton.  Fulton won the match with a team score of 187, while the Wildcats had a team score of 220.

Ecton had the lowest score for the Wildcats with a 51 (2 pars).  Matthews and Bringle were next for R-2, as they each shot a 55 (1 par each), followed by Biggs with a 59.  Holtman and Levi Warren also played and each shot a 60.  Sophomore Elinor Arens was not one of the 6 official competitors for the Wildcats, but also played Tuesday and shot a 51 (1 par).

On Thursday, the Wildcats competed in the Warrenton Invitational Meet.  We do know that the team finished in ninth place (10 teams) in the Red Division with a team score of 422 (18 holes).  Sullivan won the Red Division with a team score of 308.  However, the individual results for the Wildcats were not available when this report was written.  A complete report on this meet should be in next week’s Standard.

The Wildcats had/have 3 matches scheduled this week.  On Monday, April 15, they played at the Innsbrook Golf Course again (Wright City hosting).  On Tuesday, April 16, they played at the Sun Valley Golf Course in the Elsberry Invitational Meet.  On Thursday, April 18, they will host Silex and South Callaway at the MC Golf Club.  The match will start at 4:00.

Next week the team has 2 matches scheduled, as the regular golf season comes to a quick end.  On Monday, April 22, they will host Silex and Community R-VI at the MC Golf Course.  The match will start at 4:30.  On Thursday, April 22, they will play in the East Missouri Conference Meet at the Tanglewood Golf Course in Fulton (North Callaway is the host school).  This meet will start at Noon.

Spectators are allowed to attend these matches, but they are not allowed to “coach” or “aid” the golfers in any manner.  Best wishes to the Wildcats in their upcoming matches.
