R-2 BASKETBALL LADY WILDCATS LOSE TO CLOPTON
The Montgomery County R-2 Basketball Lady Wildcats hosted Clopton in East Missouri (EMO) Conference game last Monday, January 28, and lost 51-25. With this loss the Lady Wildcats overall record fell to 2 wins and 18 losses, and their EMO Conference record is 1-4.
The Lady Wildcats also played last Friday, February 1, against Wellsville-Middletown for the Montgomery County Trophy. However, information on this game was not available when this report was written. There will be a report on this game in next week’s Standard.
In the game on Monday Clopton gradually built its lead each quarter to come away with the win. In the first quarter Clopton outscored the Lady Wildcats 14-6, and then outscored R-2 12-8 in the second quarter to lead 26-14 at halftime.
The second half scoring was similar to the first half, as Clopton outscored the Lady Wildcats 12-7 in the third quarter to lead 38-21. In the fourth quarter R-2 was outscored 13-4 to give Clopton the 51-25 win.
Mackenzie Yager led the Lady Wildcats in scoring with 12 points (1 field goal/FG, 3 3-pointers, and 1 free throw/FT). She was followed in the scoring by Emily O’Keefe with 4 points (2 FGs), Shelby Roark, Elinor Arens and Lauren McGarvey with 2 points each (1 FG each), and Makayla Yager, Hope Eoff, and Delaney Benney with 1 point each (1 FT each). Danielle Schmidt, Jessica Dryden and Sammie Korte also played but did not score.
In other key stats, O’Keefe led the Lady Wildcats in rebounds with 10. Schmidt led the team in steals with 3, and Benney led the team in assists with 2.
This week the Lady Wildcats have 3 games. On Monday, February 4, they hosted North Callaway in an EMO Conference game. On Thursday, February 7, they will host Fulton in a non-conference game. On Thursday the Jr. Varsity game will be first at 6:00, followed by the Varsity game around 7:30.
On Friday, February 8, the Varsity Lady Wildcats and the Varsity Wildcats will play an EMO Conference game at Elsberry. This is a “make-up” game for both teams from games that were postponed in late December. The Lady Wildcats will play first at 6:00, followed by the Wildcats’ game around 7:30.
The 2012-13 regular season ends next week for the Lady Wildcats with 2 EMO Conference home games (State District Tournament starts February 18). On Tuesday, February 12, the Lady Wildcats will host Community R-VI. On Thursday, February 14, they will host Silex. On both nights the Jr. Varsity game will be first at 6:00, followed by the Varsity game around 7:30.
