BASKETBALL LADY WILDCATS LOSE FIRST GAME OF 2013
The Montgomery County R-2 Basketball Lady Wildcats started the 2013 part of their season last week by traveling to Mokane and playing South Callaway. The Lady Wildcats played good defense but once again could not get much going on offense, as they lost 36-26. With this loss the Lady Wildcats’ record fell to 1 win and 9 losses.
The Lady Wildcats fell behind by 4 points in the first quarter, trailing 10-6 at the end of the quarter. South Callaway outscored the Lady Wildcats 9-7 in the second quarter to lead R-2 19-13 at halftime.
Neither team could get much going offensively in the third quarter, as both teams scored 5 points each to give SC a 24-18 lead at the end of the quarter. SC then outscored the Lady Wildcats 12-8 in the last quarter to come away with the 36-26 win.
Hope Eoff led the Lady Wildcats in scoring with 7 points (3 field goals/FGs, 1 free throw/FT). She was followed in the scoring by Mackenzie Yager and Elinor Arens with 5 points each (Yager 1 FG/1 3-pointer, Arens with 1 3-pointer/2 FTs), Danielle Schmidt with 4 points (2 FGs), Shelby Roark with 3 points (1 FG/1 FT), and Delaney Benney with 2 points (1 FG). Makayla Yager, Jessica Dryden, Lauren McGarvey, Emily O’Keefe, and Sammie Korte also played but did not score.
This week the Varsity Lady Wildcats are playing in the South Callaway Tournament. They play Hermann in their first game on Tuesday, January 8, at 6:00, at the South Callaway Middle School Gym. They will play again on Thursday, January 10, at 6:00, against either Harrisburg or Russellville. They will play a third tournament game either on Friday or Saturday (depending on the results of the first two games).
Next week the Lady Wildcats have two non-conference road games. On Monday, January 14, they will play at New Haven. Then on Thursday, January 17, they will play at Owensville. Both nights the Jr. Varsity team will play first at 6:00, followed by the Varsity game starting around 7:30.
