R-2 WILDCAT FOOTBALL PLAYERS EARN POST-SEASON AWARDS

The Montgomery County R-2 Football Wildcats had their most successful season since the 2008 season, as they finished with an overall record of 7 wins and 4 losses and finished second in the East Missouri (EMO) Conference with a record of 4-1.  In addition to the team’s success, several Wildcat players have received post-season awards for their part in the team’s success.  The following is a list of these awards and the players who received them.

MISSOURI FOOTBALL COACHES ASSOCIATION AWARDS:

All-State Team:  Nick Martin/Defensive Back – Third Team

All-District Offensive Team:  Nick Martin/Running Back

                                      Colt Ellis/Wide Receiver

                                      Rodney Bernat/Lineman.

All-District Defensive Team – Nick Martin/Defensive Back

                                        Sam Kroll/Lineman

                                                    Jake Kent/Defensive End

MISSOURI SPORTS WRITERS & SPORTSCASTERS ASSOCIATION AWARDS:

All-District Offensive Team:  Rodney Bernat/Lineman – First Team – Unanimous Choice

                                      Nick Martin/Running Back – First Team

                                                  Colt Ellis/Wide Receiver – First Team

                                                  Clayton Schlanker/Lineman – Second Team

All-District Defensive Team:  Nick Martin/Defensive Back – First Team – Unanimous Choice

                                                   Sam Kroll/Lineman – First Team

                                                   Jake Kent/Lineman – First Team

All-District Special Team (Kicks, Punts & Returns):  Nick Martin/Kick Return – First Team

On November 14, the football team had its annual Awards Night for the 2012 season, at which the players received their Varsity and Jr. Varsity letters.  In addition, the following special awards given out by the coaching staff:

County Football Award – Best represents the team on & off the field – Dustin Dyer.

“Rudy” Award – Perseveres the most and contributes to the team’s success – Austin Killian.

Larry Luetjen Award – Best Academics – Dustin Dyer.

Wildcat Award – Best Teammate – Clayton Schlanker.

Warrior Award – Hardest Working Player – Colt Ellis (4^th year he has received this award).

James Dean Award – Most Valuable Player – Nick Martin.

Last, but certainly not least, 15 players received an EMO Conference All-Academic Award for the 2012 season.  To receive this award these players had to earn a Varsity letter and maintain a 3.25 grade point average/B grade or higher.  The following players earned this award (listed alphabetically):  Jackson Bishop, Ross Brower, Dustin Dyer, Jack Ecton, Evan Forrest, Codey Guile, Justin Hall, Jerad Jordan, Jake Kent, Austin Killian, Kyle Kroll, Luke Longstreet, Nick Martin, Evan Milner, and Clayton Schlanker.
