BASKETBALL LADY WILDCATS LOSE 2 GAMES LAST WEEK

The Montgomery County R-2 Lady Wildcats basketball team played 2 road games last week, and lost both of them.  On Monday, December 3, they lost to Orchard Farm (in St. Charles County) 49-19.  On Thursday, December 6, they lost to Warrenton 56-20.  With these games the Lady Wildcats’ record is 0 wins and 6 losses.

In the Orchard Farm game the Lady Wildcats were able to keep the score close in the first half, as Orchard Farm only led 9-7 at the end of the first quarter.  In the second quarter the Lady Wildcats were only outscored 12-6 to keep OF’s lead at 8 points at 21-13.

However, the second half was another story.  OF outscored the Lady Wildcats 12-3 in the third quarter to make the score 33-16.  Then in the fourth quarter OF outscored the Lady Wildcats 16-3 to make the final score 49-19.

Mackenzie Yager led the Lady Wildcats in scoring with 6 points (2 3-pointers).  She was followed in the scoring by Emily O’Keefe with 5 points (1 field goal/FG and 3 free throws/FTs), Elinor Arens with 4 points (1 FG, 2 FTs), and Danielle Schmidt and Delaney Benney with 2 points each (1 FG each).  Mackenzie Yager, Jessica Dryden, Lauren McGarvey, Shelby Roark, Hope Eoff, and Sammie Korte also played, but did not score.

The Lady Wildcats didn’t fare any better in the Warrenton game on Thursday.  Warrenton was able to take control of the game early, as the Lady Warriors jumped out to take an 18-5 lead at the end of the first quarter.  The second quarter was a little closer as Warrenton outscored R-2 13-8, to make the score 31-13 at halftime.

Just like the Orchard Farm game the Lady Wildcats did not score many points in the second half, while Warrenton’s offense seemed to work just fine.  Warrenton outscored R-2 15-4 in the third quarter to lead 46-17.  Then Warrenton outscored the Lady Wildcats 10-3 in the final quarter to win the game 56-20.

Makayla Yager led R-2 in scoring with 5 points (2 FGs, 1 FT).  She was followed in the scoring by Arens with 4 points (2 FGs), Mackenzie Yager and Dryden with 3 points (Yager 1 3-pointer, and Dryden 3 FTs), Schmidt and O’Keefe with 2 points each (1 FG each), and Roark with 1 point (1 FT).  McGarvey, Eoff, Benney and Korte also played, but did not score.

This week the Lady Wildcats play 2 East Missouri (EMO) Conference games.  On Monday, December 10, they played at Bowling Green.  On Thursday, December 13, they will host Wright City.  The Jr. Varsity team will play the first game at 6:00, followed by the Varsity game around 7:30.

The Lady Wildcats have 2 more EMO Conference games next week, before the Christmas Break.  On Tuesday, December 18, the Lady Wildcat and Wildcat Varsity teams will play at Van-Far.  The Lady Wildcats’ game will start at 6:00, followed by the Wildcats’ game around 7:30.  On Thursday, December 20, the Varsity and Jr. Varsity Lady Wildcats will play at Elsberry.  The JV game will start at 6:00, followed by the Varsity game around 7:30.

The Lady Wildcat players and coaches encourage you to attend their games, to support them and cheer them to victory.
