R-2 WILDCATS BASKETBALL TEAM SPLIT 2 GAMES LAST WEEK

The Montgomery County R-2 Wildcats Boys’ basketball team played 2 non-conference road games last week and came away with a loss and a win.  On Tuesday, December 4, they lost to South Callaway 51-31.  On Friday, December 7, they avenged a loss 43-30 to New Haven in the R-2 Tournament the week before by defeating New Haven 45-41.  With these games the Wildcats have a record of 3 wins and 3 losses for the 2012-13 season.

Tuesday’s game against South Callaway was a close game until the fourth quarter.  The game was tied at 9-9 at the end of the first quarter.  South Callaway then outscored the Wildcats 11-6 in the second quarter to make the score 20-15 at halftime.

The Wildcats were able to close the gap to 3 points at the end of the third quarter, as they outscored SC 11-9 to make the score 29-26 at the end of the quarter.  Unfortunately that was as close as R-2 would get to SC, as SC outscored the Wildcats 22-5 in the fourth quarter to win the game 51-31.

Jacob Davis led the Wildcats in scoring with 8 points (3 field goals/FGs, 2 free throws/FTs).  He was followed in the scoring by Cameron Parrish with 6 points (3 FGs), Jerad Jordan with 5 points (1 3-pointer, 2 FTs), Tim Kroll and Dylan Skeens with 4 points each (2 FGs each), Brian Davis with 2 points (1 FG), and Chase Worsham and Jackson Bishop with 1 point each (1 FT each).  Justin Hall and Kyle Kroll also played, but did not score.

In other key stats, Parrish led R-2 in rebounds with 8 and Hall had 6.  Jordan and Parrish had 2 assists each, and T. Kroll led the team in steals with 3.

The New Haven game on Friday was just as close as the South Callaway game on Tuesday, however the Wildcats prevailed in the final quarter of the game to come away with the win.  The teams played evenly in the first quarter, as the score was tied at 8-8 at the end of the quarter.  R-2 outscored NH 14-12 in the second quarter to lead 22-20 at halftime.

The third quarter was a high scoring quarter for both teams, as NH outscored the Wildcats 17-15 to tie the game at 37-37.  The fourth quarter was the exact opposite of the third quarter, as the two teams scored a total of only 12 points.  However (unlike Tuesday’s game), the Wildcats came out on top this time, outscoring NH 8-4 to come away with a 45-41 victory.

Tim Kroll led the Wildcats in scoring with 12 points (2 FGs/2 3-pointers/2 FTs).  He was followed in the scoring by Parrish with 11 points (5 FGs/1 FT), J. Davis with 10 points (5 FGs), Jordan with 8 points (2 FGs/4 FTs), and Hall with 4 points (2 FGs).  Bishop, B. Davis, Skeens and Worsham also played, but did not score.

In other key stats Parrish led R-2 in rebounds with 14, followed by Hall with 7.  T. Kroll led the team in assists with 3, followed by J. Davis with 2.  J. Davis led the team in steals with 2.

This week the Wildcats play 2 East Missouri (EMO) Conference games.  On Tuesday, December 11, they will play at Bowling Green.  On Friday, December 14, they will host Wright City.  On both nights the Jr. Varsity game will be the first game and will start at 6:00, with the Varsity game starting around 7:30.

The Wildcats will finish the 2012 part of the season next week, as they have two more EMO Conference games before the Christmas Break.  On Tuesday, December 18, they will travel with the Varsity Lady Wildcats to play at Van-Far.  The Lady Wildcats will play first at 6:00, followed by the Wildcats’ game around 7:30.  On Friday, December 21, the Varsity and Jr. Varsity Wildcats will play at Elsberry.  The JV game will start at 6:00, followed by the Varsity game around 7:30.

The Wildcats encourage you to attend their games to support them and cheer them on to victory.
