R-2 WILDCATS BASKETBALL TEAM WINS 2012-13 SEASON OPENER

The Montgomery County R-2 Wildcats Boys’ basketball team opened its 2012-13 season last Tuesday, November 20, by hosting and defeating the Hermann Bearcats.  In three of the four quarters the scoring was close, but in the second quarter the Wildcats outscored Hermann by 14 points and went on to win 64-47.

As is usually the case when these rivals play each other, the first quarter was evenly contested as the quarter ended in an 11-11 tie.  However, the Wildcats broke the game open in the second quarter by outscoring Hermann 21-7 to take a 32-18 lead at halftime.

The teams got back to playing almost even in the second half.  In the third quarter the Wildcats outscored Hermann 18-17 to lead 50-35 at the end of the quarter.  In the fourth quarter R-2 outscored Hermann 14-12 to come away with the 64-47 win.

Jerad Jordan led the Wildcats in scoring with 19 points (2 field goals/FGs, 3 3-pointers, 7 free throws/FTs).  He was followed in the scoring by Tim Kroll with 12 points (2 FGs, 2 3-pointers, 2 FTs), Jacob Davis with 12 points (4 FGs, 4 FTs), Cameron Parrish 6 points (2 3-pointers), Chase Worsham 6 points (1 FG, 4 FTs), Justin Hall with 3 points (1 FG, 1 FT), Dylan Skeens 3 points (1 3-pointer), Kyle Kroll 2 points (1 FG) and Brian Davis 1 point (1 FT).

In other key stats, Worsham led the Wildcats in rebounds with 11, and Parrish and J. Davis had 5 rebounds each.  Jordan and Parrish led the team with 2 steals each, and Parrish had 2 assists.

The Wildcats play 3 games this week in the Montgomery County R-2 Invitational Tournament.  On Tuesday, November 27, they play against New Haven at 6:00.  They play again on Thursday, November 29, against either Mexico or Wellsville-Middletown.  If they win on Tuesday, they will play at 7:30.  If they lose on Tuesday, they will play at 9:00.  They will also play on Saturday, but their opponent and game time will not be determined until after the game on Thursday.

Next week the Wildcats will play 2 non-conference games on the road.  On Tuesday, December 4, they will travel to South Callaway.  On Friday, December 7, they will travel to New Haven.  On both nights the Jr. Varsity will play the first game at 6:00, followed by the Varsity game starting around 7:30.

The Wildcats encourage you to attend their games to support them and cheer them on to victory.
