R-2 8TH GRADE BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM WINS 2ND GAME
The Montgomery County R-2 Wildcats 8th grade boys’ basketball team traveled to Silex last Monday, November 19, and came away with their second win of the 2012-13 season. The young Wildcats survived a low-scoring first half (6 points) and pulled away to a 42-27 win.
As was mentioned in the opening paragraph, the 8th Graders couldn’t put the ball in the basket in the first half. Fortunately for R-2, their defense held Silex to one 3-point field goal and 3 free throws to make the score 6-6 at halftime.
Silex scored the first basket of the second half to take an 8-6 lead, but the Wildcat offense finally got going and that was the last time Silex lead in the game. For the rest of the third quarter the Wildcats outscored Silex 19-4 to take a 25-12 lead at the end of the quarter.
Both teams’ offenses were able to score in the fourth quarter. The Wildcats put together 6 field goals and 5 free throws for 17 points and Silex made 2 field goals, 2 3-point baskets and 5 free throws for 15 points. This made the final score 42-27 and gave R-2 the win.
Chase Parrish led R-2 in scoring with 15 points (4 FGs, 2 3-pointers, 1 FT). He was followed in the scoring by Brendan Their with 14 points (7 FGs), Brendan Hazel and Devon Oden with 4 points each (Hazel 4 FTs, Oden 2 FGs), Eric Biggs and Roman Bronaugh with 2 points each (Biggs 2 FTs, Bronaugh 1 FG), and Logan Henke with 1 point (1 FT). Jaiden Burch, Aaron Kempf and Austin Schwab also played, but did not score.
