Montgomery County High SchoolR-2 SOFTBALL RECAP FOR 2012 SEASON
The 2012 season was a tough one for the Montgomery County R-2 Lady Wildcats’ softball team and Coach Jessie Cobb, as R-2’s final record was 1 win and 18 losses. Their East Missouri Conference record was 0-8.
The Lady Wildcats lone victory came in the first game of the season, as they defeated Hermann 15-9. The good news for the Lady Wildcats for the 2013 season is that they lose only 1 player, Chelsey Hemeyer, to graduation.
On November 6, the team had its annual Awards Night with a supper and a time to give special recognition to individual players for their efforts this season. Here are the awards that were given out, with a brief description by Coach Cobb as to why they earned these awards.
Best Offensive Player – Miah Klekamp – 14 hits; .424 batting average, and 10 runs scored.
Best Defensive Player – Shelby Roark – Catcher – Runs our defense and does a great job behind the plate.
Most Improved Player – Lauren McGarvey – 1st Base – Moved to first base this season and led the team in fielding with only 3 errors in 62 fielding opportunities.
No Guts, No Glory Award – Payton LaBrier – Payton played three different positions, with only 5 errors in 63 fielding opportunities.
Senior Award – Chelsey Hemeyer.
Also, Shelby was elected to the East Missouri Conference All-Conference Second Team (by a vote of the conference coaches) for the third consecutive season. In addition, she was elected to the All-District Team by the coaches that played in the Missouri District 11 Tournament for Class 2 schools (based on high school enrollment numbers).
Congratulations to these Lady Wildcats for giving your best efforts, which led to your earning these awards. Best wishes for the 2013 season.
