Fall EMO All Conference Honors BY ALAN BRAKE

November 10, 2012
Montgomery County High School

9 R-2 ATHLETES EARN EMO ALL-CONFERENCE HONORS FOR FALL SPORTS

Nine Montgomery County R-2 athletes earned East Missouri (EMO) Conference All-Conference honors in the Fall Sports of football and softball for the 2012 season.  The EMO Conference does not have All-Conference teams in volleyball or soccer, as there are not enough teams in the conference that have these sports.

The athletes were nominated by their R-2 Head Coach and then were elected by the EMO Conference coaches (based on their performance) in their respective sports.  Not every player who is nominated is elected to the team, so to be elected is quite an honor.

The following is a recap of the players who earned this award in each sport and their season statistics that helped them to do so.

SOFTBALL

Shelby Roark, a Junior, earned Second Team EMO All-Conference honors.  This is the third

consecutive year that Shelby has earned this honor.  Shelby led the Lady Wildcats this season in runs batted in (11), doubles (5).  She was also second on the team in hits (11), batting average (.324), and fielding (.935 fielding percentage).

Shelby also was elected to the Missouri District 11 All-District team by a vote of the coaches of the teams that played in the District 11 tournament.  This is the second consecutive year that Shelby has earned this honor.

FOOTBALL

8 Wildcat players earned 10 EMO Conference All-Conference honors (2 playerS earned honors on both offense and defense).  The Wildcats who earned First Team honors, their grade, playing position, and their season stats are as follows:

Colt Ellis/Senior – Offensive End – **Unanimous Vote** by the conference coaches – Second consecutive year that Colt has earned this 1st Team honor – 28 pass receptions for 458 yards, and 14 touchdowns (8 on passes, 5 rushing, and 1 punt return).

Nick Martin/Senior – Offensive Running Back – **Unanimous Vote** by the conference coaches – 118 carries for 1,078 yards (9.14 yards per carry average), 4 pass receptions for 100 yards, and 20 touchdowns (16 rushing, 1 on a pass, and 3 kick-off returns).

Rodney Bernat – Offensive Lineman – The “stats” that help determine who earns “linemen honors” is based on the success of the total offense and the linemen the head coach nominates as being a key to that success.

Sam Kroll – Defensive Lineman – **Unanimous Vote** by the conference coaches – 70 tackles (40 solo tackles) and 1 fumble recovery for a touchdown.

Jake Kent – Defensive End – 69 Tackles (36 solo tackles), 3 fumble recoveries and 1 interception.

Martin – Free Safety – 88 tackles (64 solo tackles), 1 interception and 1 fumble recovery.

The Wildcats who received Second Team honors are as follows:

The Wildcats who earned Second Team honors, their grade, playing position, and their season stats are as follows:

Austin Killian – Linebacker – 45 tackles (29 solo tackles), 1 interception and 1 fumble recovery.

Evan Forrest – Corner Back – 35 tackles (24 solo tackles) and 1 fumble recovery.

Clayton Schlanker/Junior – Offensive Lineman – Again, the “stats” that help determine who earns “linemen” honors is based on the success of the total offense and the linemen the head coach nominates as being a key to that success.

At this time the football All-District honors for all of northeast Missouri (elected by the sports media people of NE Missouri) have not been announced.  We will have a report on any R-2 players that may receive this honor whenever this information is announced.

A hearty “Congratulations” to all of these athletes and their coaches for earning these well-deserved honors.  Also, a big “Thank You” to all of you for representing our school and school communities so well.
