LADY WILDCATS SOFTBALLTEAMLOSES EMO CONFERENCE GAME

The Montgomery County R-2 Lady Wildcats softball team played last Tuesday, September 18, against Community R-VI and lost 19-1.  With this game the Lady Wildcats’ overall record is now 1 wins and 10 losses and their East Missouri (EMO) Conference record is 0-6.

The Lady Wildcats also played Silex on Thursday, September 20, and hosted and played in the annual Wildcat Fall Classic on Saturday, September 22.  However, the information for the Silex game and the tournament was not available when this report was written.  A report on these games should be in next week’s issue of the Standard.

In the Community R-VI game Miah Klekamp started the game with a walk, and then stole second base.  However, she was thrown out at third base on a ball hit by Megan Ramo.  Shelby Roark struck out and Shelby Miles grounded out to end the top of the first inning.

Community then scored 15 runs in the bottom of the first inning, on 5 hits, 8 walks and 5 Lady Wildcat errors.  The Lady Wildcats did not score in the top of the second inning, but Community scored 4 more runs in the bottom of the second on 6 walks and 1 R-2 error (0 hits) to make the score 19-0.

The Lady Wildcats did score 1 run in the top of the third inning.  Emily Walton started the inning with a walk.  She reached second base on a passed ball, reached third base on a ground ball out by Klekamp, and scored on a ground ball out by Chelsey Hemeyer.  The Lady Wildcats did not score any more runs and the game ended after 2½ innings of play, due to the “mercy rule” (a team has at least a 15 run lead after 3 innings of play).

This week the Lady Wildcats have two home games.  On Tuesday they host Bowling Green in an EMO Conference game, which starts at 5:00 p.m.  On Thursday they host New Haven in a non-conference game, which starts at 4:30 p.m.

This Saturday, September 29, the Lady Wildcats will host the first ever EMO Conference Tournament at the High School Softball Fields.  There will be 9 teams involved in this tournament, with the first game being played at 8:00 a.m.  Games will be played throughout the day, with the Championship game scheduled to start at 5:00 p.m.

The Lady Wildcats play their last game of the regular season next Monday, October 1, at Louisiana.  This is a non-conference game and starts at 5:00 p.m.  After this game, the Lady Wildcats will play in Missouri District 11 Tournament for Class 2 schools (based on high school enrollment numbers) later in the week.  This tournament will be played in Elsberry.

The Lady Wildcats hope you will come to their games and give them your support.  Best wishes to the Lady Wildcats for the rest of your season.
