NEW MISSOURI HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PLAYOFF FORMAT;

R-2 CURRENTLY 2ND IN DISTRICT STANDINGS

The Missouri State High School Activities Association started a new format for the football state playoffs with the 2012 season.  For the past several seasons there were 4 teams in a district.  These four teams would play each other the last 3 games of the regular season.  The 2 teams with the best records at the end of those 3 games would move on to the state playoffs.

Under the new format, there are 8 teams in each district.  Through the first 9 games of the season, each team earns points based on the following:  a) Wins and losses; b) How many points the team wins/losses by (no more than 13 points is credited either way); c) The strength of your schedule (based on the win-loss records of the teams you play); and d) 10 bonus points if you play against teams in a higher enrollment class than the one you are in (6 classes in Missouri).  The total points for each team is then divided by 9 (based on the 9 games each team plays), to determine each team’s average points per game for the season.

The 10th game of the season a district tournament is started, with the following schedule of games:  #1 team in points vs. #8 team; #2 team vs. #7 team; #3 team vs. #6 team; and #4 team vs. #5 team.  The teams that win continue to play and the season ends for the teams that lose.  The team that wins games 10, 11 and 12 wins the District Championship and moves on to the State Playoff Quarterfinals that includes the 8 teams that won their district.

The information listed below is for District 6 for Class 2 schools (based on high school enrollment numbers), which is the district that Montgomery County R-2 is in.  As you can see, the Wildcats are currently in second place in District 6 (for the 2nd consecutive week).  If possible, we will try to have the updated standings in Standard after each week of play.
