LADY WILDCATS’ 2012 SOFTBALL SEASON STARTS AUGUST 23

The Montgomery County R-2 Lady Wildcats’ Softball team begins the 2012 season this Thursday, August 23, as they host the Hermann Lady Bearcats at the Kiwanis Field (behind the HS/MS campus).  The game will start at 5:00 p.m.

Next week the Lady Wildcats will have 3 games, as they host St. Clair on Monday/27th, travel to Wright City on Tuesday/28th and host Van-Far on Thursday/30th.  All 3 of these games also start at 5:00 p.m.  The Wright City and Van-Far games are East Missouri (EMO) Conference, while the Hermann and St. Clair games are non-conference games.

This year’s team consists of 10 players, including Seniors Chelsea Hemeyer; Juniors Payton LaBrier, Lauren McGarvey and Shelby Roark; Sophomores Miah Klekamp, Shelby Miles and Emily Walton; and Freshmen Taylor Lauer, Cayleigh Lively and Megan Ramo

Jessie Cobb will once again be the Head Coach of the softball team (8th year).  Joe Klekamp will be her Assistant Coach, while Christina Ridgley will coach the Middle School team.

Unlike last year’s young and inexperienced team, which did not win a game, the 2012 Lady Wildcats have 6 returning players this year, including Roark, Klekamp, Miles, LaBrier, McGarvey, and Walton.  Roark earned EMO 2nd Team All-Conference honors, as well as being selected to the Missouri District 8 All-Tournament Team last season.  Klekamp led the team in hitting and runs scored last season, while Miles was the Lady Wildcats’ primary pitcher

Coach Cobb made the following comment concerning the 2012 team and season:  “We are pretty excited about the upcoming season. Last year, there was a lot of youth and we took our lumps. This year, we had a great first week of practice and are improving daily. We won’t have much depth, but we should be strong at most positions. Our outfield is full of inexperience, but they have shown a willingness to work hard and improve daily.

The Lady Wildcats and Coach Cobb hope you will be able to attend the games and cheer the girls on to victory in the 2012 season.
