The Montgomery County R-2 Wildcats golf team hosted a regular match at home and participated in the Warrenton Invitational Tournament last week. On Tuesday, April 10, they finished first in the 4-team match. On Thursday, April 12 they finished 4th out of 9 teams in their division. With these matches they have a record of 18 wins and 6 losses (based on R-2’s team score compared to the other teams’ scores).
In first match of the week the Wildcats won with a team score of 174 (based on the four best scores out of six golfers). Fulton finished second with a 181, Wright City finished third with a 209, and Winfield finished fourth with a 239.
Glenn Ripch, from Fulton, had the “medalist” score (lowest individual score) with a 37 (Par 35 for 9 holes). Brady Lichtenberg had the lowest score for R-2 with a 38 (1 birdie and 5 pars). Andrew Gaines had the second lowest score for R-2 with a 44 (2 pars), followed by Shane Lotton with a 45 (2 pars), and Jack Ecton with a 47 (1 par). Adam Sullivan and Alex Arens also competed for the Wildcats, each shooting a 53 (Arens had 1 par).

This week the Wildcats are competing in two more large tournaments. On Tuesday, April 17, they will play in the Elsberry Tournament. Then Wednesday, April 18, they will play in the EMO Conference Tournament and try to win the EMO Conference Championship. This tournament is being held at the Warrenton Golf Course, on Highway 47 South.
Next week the Wildcats will end the regular season with a home match on Monday, April 23, against Silex and Community R-6. Then on Tuesday, April 24, they will compete with 10 other teams in the Missouri District 3 Tournament for Class 2 schools (based on high school enrollment numbers) to try to qualify for the State Playoffs. That tournament will be held in Hannibal, at the Norwood Golf Course.
Family members, fans and friends are allowed to attend all of these matches/tournaments, but you are unable to assist the golfers in any manner. The Elsberry Tournament starts at 10:00 a.m., the EMO Conference Tournament starts at Noon, and the District Tournament starts at 9:00 a.m.
