Home » Girls' Basketball NewsHermany TournyFebruary 15, 2012 Montgomery County High SchoolLADY WILDCATS PLAY IN HERMANN TOURNEY The Montgomery County R-2 Lady Wildcats basketball team played three games last week in the Hermann Tournament, winning 1 game and losing 2. On Monday, January 23, the Lady Wildcats (seeded #6 in the tournament) lost 50-27 to Owensville (#3 seed). On Wednesday, January 25, they lost to Warrenton (#7 seed) 35-27. On Saturday, January 28, they defeated Wright City 38-26. With these games the Lady Wildcats have a record of 8 wins and 10 losses. Hermann won the tournament on Friday night, by defeating Owensville 65-46 in the Championship game. In Monday’s game against Owensville, the Lady Wildcats got outscored by at least 5 points every quarter and never were never able to make the game close. Owensville led 16-9 at the end of the first quarter and outscored R-2 12-6 in the second quarter to lead 28-15 at halftime. The second half was more of the same, as Owensville outscored R-2 14-9 in the third quarter to lead 42-24, and then outscored R-2 8-3 in the fourth quarter to win the game 50-27. Brandy Reagan led R-2 in scoring with 15 points (6 field goals/FGs and 3 free throws/FTs). She was followed in the scoring by Amy Muchow and Courtney Thomas with 4 points each (2 FGs each), and Rachel Miller and Mackenzie Yager with 2 points each (1 FG each). Danielle Schmidt and Hope Eoff also played in the game, but did not score. In other key stats Reagan led the team in rebounds with 10, and Thomas had 6. Miller led the team in assists with 6. In the Warrenton game the Lady Wildcats took the early lead, leading 8-6 at the end of the first quarter. However, Warrenton then outscored R-2 in each of the last three quarters to win the game. Warrenton outscored R-2 10-4 in the second quarter to lead 16-12 at halftime. Warrenton outscored R-2 9-7 in the third quarter to lead 25-19 and then outscored R-2 10-8 in the last quarter to secure a 35-27 win. Yager led the Lady Wildcats in scoring with 9 points (2 FGs/1 3-pointer/2 FTs). She was followed in the scoring by Reagan and Miller with 6 points each (Reagan 2 FGs/2 FTs and Miller 3 FGs), and Thomas, Eoff, and Schmidt with 2 points each (each had 1 FG). Muchow also played in the game, but did not score. In other key stats Reagan led the team in rebounds with 13 and Thomas with 7. Miller led the team in steals with 4 and Thomas had 3. The Lady Wildcats earned their victory on Saturday against Wright City, with the second quarter being the decisive quarter. The first quarter was almost even, as R-2 outscored WC 7-6. The Lady Wildcats then outscored WC 12-3 in the second quarter to lead 19-9 at halftime, a lead they would not relinquish. The play and score was very even in the second half, much like the first quarter. WC outscored R-2 9-8 in the third quarter to make the score 27-18, but R-2 outscored WC 11-8 in the final quarter to come away with a 38-26 win. Muchow led the Lady Wildcats in scoring with 10 points (4 FGs/4 FTs). She was followed in the scoring by Reagan with 7 points (2 FGs/3 FTs), Miller with 6 points (3 FGs), Thomas, Eoff, and Schmidt with 4 points each (Thomas and Eoff with 2 FGs each and Schmidt with 1 FG/2 FTs) and Yager with 3 points (1 3-pointer). There were no other “key stats” available for this report. This week, the Lady Wildcats have 2 games. On Monday, January 30, they played at home against Hermann in a non-conference game. On Thursday, February 2, they will travel to Winfield to play an EMO Conference game. The Jr. Varsity game will be played first at 6:00 p.m., and the Varsity will follow. Next week the Lady Wildcats have only 1 game scheduled, as they host Wright City in an EMO Conference game. Again, the Jr. Varsity game will be played first, starting at 6:00 p.m., and the Varsity game will follow.
