October 12, 2012
McCutcheon High SchoolMatt Rittman's goal in the first round of the second session of penalty kicks lifted Hamilton Southeastern to a 1-0 boys soccer victory over McCutcheon in the Class 2A Kokomo Regional semifinals on Thursday.
The Mavericks led 3-2 after the first four rounds of penalty kicks when HSE's Alex Grossman scored to tie it. McCutcheon's Jake Shake had a chance to win it, but Royals keeper Chase Thompson made the save.
The Royals also went first in the second, sudden-death portion of overtime, and Rittman went left for the go-ahead score. McCutcheon sent freshman Kyle Walker to the line, and he shot right, but Grossman went to his left to smother it and secure the victory.
McCutcheon goalkeeper Quentin Perez collected 14 saves, including six in the second half, while holding HSE scoreless. But McCutcheon could put only two shots of its own on goal in the two overtime periods.
