MASON CITY - Sherman Blanford led four Marshalltown Community College scorers in double figures with 18 points as the Tigers outlasted NIACC, 83-68, in a non-conference men's basketball game Tuesday night.
MCC (2-1) also got double-doubles from Keith Coleman and Rashaad Brown, helping the team to a 57-41 advantage in rebounding that head coach Brynjar Brynjarsson said was the "big key" to the victory.
Coleman had 13 points and 13 rebounds, Brown had 14 points, 10 assists and eight boards, and Marcus Bell added eight points and 11 rebounds for MCC. Matej Delinac also had 10 points for the Tigers.
Marshalltown led 38-36 at the half before outscoring the Trojans 45-32 after the break.
"We've got to put a complete game together," said Brynjarsson. "We came out flat. We just can't sustain the level that we need to for two 20-minute halves."
Rebounding keyed the Tigers' transition game in the second half, allowing MCC to pull away. MCC also scored 12 second-chance points to help make up for 22 turnovers.
