CEDAR RAPIDS - The Marshalltown Community College baseball team banged out 18 hits in a cross-ICCAC doubleheader at Kirkwood on Sunday but had to settle for a split.
Nine players had hits for the Tigers (18-13) in the opener, a 10-1 victory for MCC, but four unearned runs in the nightcap led to Kirkwood's 4-0 win.
The loss snapped an eight-game win streak for Marshalltown, which outhit the host Eagles 18-4 during the day.
Five Tigers had two hits apiece in the opening game, backing the combined efforts of pitchers Jimmy Six and Bryce Manning. Six allowed three hits and one run over 5 1/3 innings, striking out three, while Manning threw 1 2/3 frames of perfect relief.
Jordan McCoy was 2-for-4 with a three-run double in MCC's five-run fourth inning. Damil Reyes and Richard Swan both added RBI singles in the at-bat.
T.J. Flanagan had a two-run double in the second. Zach Glasgow, Jag Gordaya, Ben Lott, McCoy and Swan had two hits apiece.
The Tigers stranded eight runners on base in the nighcap and hurt themselves with three errors as none of four runs came earned to Ian Hamilton and Christopher Stout. Hamilton walked six and struck out eight, allowing only a third-inning single to Rafael Diaz.
Kirkwood (21-16) had no hits in either of its two-run fifth and sixth innings.
Manning, Gordaya, Lott and McCoy accounted for Marshalltown's only hits - all singles.
MCC is slated to play one nine-inning game on Tuesday at DMACC.
