MUSCATINE - The Muscatine Community College softball team swept Marshalltown CC in a doubleheader on Tuesday, 1-0 and 7-1.

Stefanie Brown suffered the hard-luck loss in the opener, allowing only one earned run while going all six innings in the circle for the Tigers (5-11).

Kayla Blocker and Dena Martin both had a double to lead the MCC bats.

Muscatine chased Tiger pitcher Jessica McGuire after 4 1/3 innings, getting all seven runs before Taylor Daubenberger came on to pitch in relief.

Blocker doubled and scored, while Sami Stogdill had two hits and stole a base, accounting for all three MCC hits in game two.

Friday's Frostbuster opens IMCA

Marshalltown Speedway hosts the first sanctioned special of the season in Iowa on Friday when four IMCA divisions converge on the quarter-mile dirt oval for the Frostbuster.

Gates open at 4 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5 p.m. Hot laps are at 6:15 p.m. and racing starts at 7 p.m.

UNI recruit honored by Minnesota AP

University of Northern Iowa recruit Marvin Singleton has been named to the 2011 Minnesota All-State boys basketball team as released by The Associated Press on Wednesday.

The 6-foot-6 senior Singleton was a key performer at Hopkins, which won its third consecutive Class AAAA state championship on Saturday.

The Associated Press all-state first team is comprised of the top five players in the state across all classes.
