COUNCIL BLUFFS - One good win deserved another.

The Marshalltown Community College baseball team defeated top-ranked Iowa Western for the second day in a row, splitting a pair of 5-2 contests with the Reivers on a rain-delayed Sunday at Doc Ross Field.

The Tigers (21-26, 12-14) on Saturday ended Iowa Western's 27-game winning streak by taking the opening game of their ICCAC Division I doubleheader, and on Sunday MCC took its turn in game two.

Marshalltown took the Reivers (46-3, 27-3) for four runs with two outs in the second game, including a three-run third that rallied the Tigers from a 2-0 deficit.

Ben Lott's two-out double was followed by Jordan McCoy's RBI single. Bryce Manning walked, Kyle Simpson plated McCoy with a single, and Manning eventually scored on a passed ball.

The Tigers tacked on runs in the fourth and seventh. Tyler Evans drove in McCoy with a seventh-inning single, and Zach Throckmorten earned his fourth save in relief of Jake Whaley.

Whaley (2-4) went six strong innings for the win, walking four and striking out three. He gave up four singles and two runs (one earned). Throckmorten struck out two for the save.

McCoy and Evans both had two of MCC's seven hits in the second game.

Nine walks and four errors prevented Marshalltown from picking up a victory in the opener. Both teams had just three hits, but four of Iowa Western's five runs reached base on walks.

Free bases, wild pitches and passed balls plagued MCC starter Jeff Degano (2-3), who took the loss. Max Chadsey pitched 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.

Evans walked and scored on a Salas single in the fourth, and McCoy homered to lead off the fifth to account for the Tigers' runs. Manning also singled.

Marshalltown returns home to make up a doubleheader against Southwestern at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Shawn Williams Field.
