COUNCIL BLUFFS - The Marshalltown Community College men's basketball team ended its regular season with a 70-65 loss to Iowa Western on Saturday night.
The Tigers (11-19, 0-4) trailed by 15 at the break, but were able to make things close down the stretch before the Reivers (23-7, 2-2) were able to put the game away.
"We had chances," said MCC head coach Brynjar Brynjarsson. "We scratched and fought to get back in it."
"I liked our demeanor in the second half," he added, "we just can't start like we did."
Rashaad Brown-Peterson paced MCC with 19 points on the night while Matej Delinac added 11 and Nilson Santana nine. Marcus Bell contributed seven and both Derrick Stewart and Sherman Blanford six.
The Tigers will return to Council Bluffs on Tuesday to start the NJCAA Division I Region XI postseason against the Reivers in the single-elimination playoffs.
The winner of Tuesday's game will meet eighth-ranked and ICCAC D-I champion Indian Hills in a best-of-three series for the regional championship.
