Varsity Track at Northeastern Invitational 5/2/14

The Monroe Central Boys came back from nearly 30 points down to take second place in the 8 team Northeastern Invitational last Friday night. Union County won the championship by six points 106-100 in the long and cold evening of competition. The coaching staff couldn't have been more proud of the Bears!
Nearly all the Bears had season best times in this highly competitive meet. Champions for the Boys' were:
-Senior Chase Bly won the 1600 with a sizzling personal record time of 4:49! Chase also placed a close second place in the 3200 with a season best 10:46. Chase also was the third leg of the victorious 4 x 400 relay team.
-Sophomore Josh Randall was beaten in a photo finish in the 110 High Hurdles with a season beast 16.40 and won the 300 hurdles in a fast 42.46. Josh also had a season best second leg of the victorious 4 x 400 relay with a fast 54.22!
-Junior Marcus Drummer won the 400 in one of the areas best times with a 51.96. He placed third in the 100 and was second in the 200 in another photo finish. Marcus anchored the wining 4 x 400 which also had a season best time of 3:40. Marcus was deservedly recognized as the "High Point" athlete of the Invitational.
Other outstanding performances in the meet were:
-Junior Frederick Wilson's 9th place in the 1600 was a season best 5:12 and his 4th place time of 11:34 in the 3200 was also a season best.
-Junior R.J. Sears placed 3rd in the 400 with a season best 54.3 and had a fantastic split as the lead-off in the victorious 4 x 400 Relay.
-Junior Justin Brown placed 7th in the 800 with a gutty 2:15 run.
-Senior Brandon Burton placed 6th in the discus and was 7th in the shot.
The Bears travel to Daleville Tuesday night to face the strong Broncos and Seton Catholic.
