February 17, 2014Monroe Central Jr.- Sr. High School
Written by The Star Press--Yorktown rallied behind strong offense in the second half Saturday for a 62-55 come-from-behind boys basketball victory at Monroe Central.
The Golden Bears held the Tigers to nine points in the second quarter and claimed a 15-9 lead at halftime.
Yorktown outscored Monroe Central 41-28 in the second half to pick up the victory.
“In the first half we missed a lot of shots around the rim, and we were sloppy organizationally,” Tigers coach Greg Miller said. “A lot of that changed after halftime.”
Riley Neal was back in action for Yorktown after missing Thursday’s win against Wes-Del, as required by IHSAA rule, after receiving two technical fouls in his previous game. He made 7-of-8 shots against the Golden Bears and had 17 points with 10 rebounds.
“He had a size advantage inside, and in the second half we went to him,” Miller said. “He took care of things down low.”
Caleb Morey added 16 points for the Tigers, and Riley Miller scored 10.
Jake Combs hit five 3-point field goals to lead Monroe Central in scoring with 28 points. Chase Bly added 18.
