JH Girls' County at Union City 2/2/13

By Mike Thornburg of Monroe Central Jr.- Sr. High SchoolThe 7th and 8th grade girls basketball team traveled to Union City on Saturday morning to play in the County Tourney. The 7th grade game went back and forth for 4 quarters and it wasn’t decided until the last couple seconds of the game who was going to pull out the victory. Unfortunately, the girls had a one point lead with 6 or 7 seconds to go and couldn’t stop the Warriors from scoring. When the buzzer went off the Bears were down 1. Great effort by the girls. The loss brings the girls record to 15 and 3. The girls had a great season this year!!!!
The 8th grade team faced a much bigger West Side Warrior team. In their first meeting, the Warriors outscored the Bears by 30 but this game the Bears tighten up the defense. The girls played aggressive and took it at the Warriors. They got within 12 at one point in the second half but they hit a couple of three’s to open up the score. The final score was 20 to 38. The girls really played hard and have nothing to be ashamed of!!!! Final record 9 and 10. Great season girls!!!!!
