Varsity Boys Basketball at County 1/4/13

January 5, 2013
By Mike Thornburg of Monroe Central Jr.- Sr. High School

Written by The Star Press--Winchester edged Monroe Central 55-52 at Union to advance to the Randolph County Tournament championship game.

The Golden Falcons limited the Golden Bears to two first-quarter points to build a 10-point lead. Monroe Central cut its deficit to three points by the end of the third quarter, but Winchester was able to hang on and claim the win.

Brandon Edwards scored 13 points to lead a balanced Winchester scoring attack. Isaiah Davis and Alex Brutchen each added 11 points, while Kiante Enis scored nine points.

“We had good recognition in finding our open shooters, and I thought we attacked the rim well at certain times,” Winchester coach Rick Owens said. “We did a good job of sharing the basketball.”

With the victory, Winchester will play Union at 7:30 p.m. today at Union for the tournament championship.
