5/24/12 Softball Sectional Champs

Monroe Central softball defeated Randolph Southern to win Sectional #56 10-3 to place the Bears in a rematch of the regional 2 years ago with the Cowan Blackhawks.  Kedra Buckmaster got the victory on the mound going the complete game only allowing 5 hits with 5 K's and 2 earned runs. In the 1st inning the Rebels were held to no hits or runs allowing the Bears to attack.  The Bears sent 7 batters to the plate.  After a lead off single by Kayla Bogue and walk to Kalle Gaddis, Kristin Rodeffer laid down a sac bunt to move the runners over a base.  A wild pitch then scored Bogue.  Kedra Buckmaster then took a walk and stole 2nd. After another wild pitch, Gaddis scored to give the Bears a 2-0 lead after 1.  In the 2nd inning the Rebels scored after Morgan Acton lead
off with a single and a sac bunt moved her to 2nd.  A passed ball sent her to 3rd and Taylor York got a base hit scoring Acton to make the score 2-1 Bears.  In the 3rd inning, Lacy Covington lead off with a single for the Rebels but remained there when the next 3 batters were retired in order.  In the bottom of the 3rd, the Bears put up what would eventually be enough runs to win the ball game scoring 4 runs after sending 9 batters to the plate.  After Gaddis reached on a drop third strikeand a walk by Rodeffer, both advanced on the double steal.  Buckmaster got a base hit scoring Gaddis.  After a walk to Shaylee Stigleman and a error allowing Morgan Engle to reach 1st scoring both Rodeffer and Buckmaster.  Stigleman would eventually score on a  assed ball to give the Bears a 6-1 lead after 3 innings.  In the 5th inning the Bears would score 4 more runs after sending 8 batters to the plate.  Haley Fields led off reaching on an error by the shortstop and eventually scoring on a passed ball, after stealing 2nd and 3rd. Stigleman was hit by a pitch and Jessica Daniel hit a laser into left center for a triple eventually scoring when Alyssa Retter grounded out to shortstop.  The Rebels would score 1 run in the 6th after Acton reached on an error and back to back hits by Courtney Bray and Olivia Slick.  Brianna Brown would ground out to shortstop getting the 1 RBI in the 6th.  The Rebels would score 1 more run in the 7th making the final score 10-3.
The Bears will face the Cowan Blackhawks at Cowan on Tuesday night at 5:30 pm.
