Monroe Central 70 Cowan 61
Monroe Central turned to its big man to get back on the winning side.
Senior Derek Taylor, who stands 6-feet, 5-inches tall, scored 25 points and grabbed eight rebounds as the Golden Bears got their first win since Jan. 28.
"Cowan doesn't have a lot of size inside, so we knew he'd have to attack the rim and (Taylor) did that well," Monroe Central coach Jeremy Duncan said.
It was a much needed win for Monroe Central, a team that has lost five games by six or fewer points this year.
"It was senior night tonight and I'm just really proud of them for sticking it through," Duncan said. "It's been a great group to coach. We've faced some adversity. That proverbial hump has felt like a mountain at times."
At 8-10 for the year, Monroe Central's next game will be one of its stiffest tests of the year an 8 p.m. game at New Castle on Tuesday.
