PRE-SEASON ALL-AMERICAN NOTCHES 1,000 CAREER POINTS

Buccaneers celebrate win against conference foe 92-75

Framingham, Mass. – Entering Saturday’s contest against league rival Bunker Hill Community College (7-13), Pre-Season All-American

MassBay (18-5) stretched the lead to 17 by the half. The Bulldogs of Bunker Hill were able to make a few adjustments at the half and opened the second half with a run that would bring them as close as four points. MassBay responded with a run of its own, led by Gibbons’ hot shooting (4-for-6 from downtown). Gibbons led all scorers with 31 points and 10 rebounds.

In addition to Gibbons, the Buccaneers had four more players in double figures.

Jamal Swanson (Arlington, Mass.) connected on 8-of-12 free throws on his way to 14 points and nine rebounds. Jakeen Cobb (Boston, Mass.) contributed 11 points and three assists while Mike Young (Boston, Mass.) and Tyrell Mosley (Boston, Mass.) each chipped in 11 points.
Deshawn Gibbons (Boston, Mass.) needed just 11 points to eclipse the 1,000 point mark for his collegiate career. Gibbons scored nine of the Buccaneers’ first 14 points on his way to a 17-point first half and a place in the record books. Eight minutes into the first half, Gibbons made history and the Buccaneers never trailed in the contest.

MassBay improved its record with a second win against Roxbury Community College on Tuesday February 3, winning 95-86. The Buccaneers were led by Gibbons, who had 24 points. Mosley scored a season-high 20 points connecting on six three pointers. Young contributed 18 points and Cobb added 11 points in a winning effort.

MassBay has three games remaining on its regular season schedule. They Buccaneers host Northern Essex on Tuesday, February 10 and Briarwood on Thursday, February 12 in a Senior Night celebration. The team closes out the regular season at Bristol Community College Wednesday, February 18.
