Matt Klein -Varsity Head Coach

Coach Klein was named the Head Football Coach at Marquette High School in the Spring of 2014.  Coach Klein attended Eldon High School and then competed his undergraduate degree from Missouri Valley College with a B.S. in Biology and Exercise Science.  Following that Coach Klein completed a double Master's Degree from the University of Central Missouri and William Woods University in Education Administration and Master of Arts in Teaching.  He taught and coached 1 year at Versailles High School, 5 years at Pleasant Hill High School , and 1 year at Knob Noster High School.  Coach Klein as been a part of 1 district title, 2 quaterfinals, and 5 overall play-off victories during his tenure at Pleasant Hill.  He is married to his wife Adrienne and has one son Justin, 2 years.

Scott Cleer-Defensive Coordinator - OLB

 Coach Cleer attended Mehlville High School. He graduated from the University of Missouri, St. Louis with a degree in Social Studies and History. He received his Masters degree in Secondary Education form Southwest Baptist College. He has been at Marquette since 1992 where he teaches AP Government and runs the Cadet Teacher program. He was the Defensive Coordinator and Offensive Line Coach from 1992-2001. He has been freshmen head coach since 2007. He is also the Girls Basketball Coach at Fox High School. He has two step-children, Chandra & Shannon, and two step-grandchildren, Austin and Kendall.

 

 Dan McMullen-Varsity Assistant Coach

This is Dan's 2nd year with Marquette and 6th year coaching high school football.  Dan grew up in Los Angeles California and graduated from John F. Kennedy High school. In high school, Dan was a Blue Chip All American Quarterback. After high school, Dan attended Los Angeles Pierce Junior College where he became the schools all time leading passer and 4 time state player of the week as well as player of the year. Dan then attended St. Ambrose University in Davenport Iowa where he would be named first team all conference after his first year as quarterback.  Upon graduation, Dan played for the Quad City Steamwheelers in the Arena Football League.  After only three years he suffered a career ending injury.  Upon moving to St. Louis, Dan attended Lindenwood University and received his Masters degree in Education.

Dan has been married for 9 years to his wife Julie and they have 4 beautiful children. His oldest is Shane (8), Cody (7) {Cody is also playing in his first tackle football season for the O'Fallon Renegades as the teams quarterback}, and his youngest are18 month old twin daughters, Gianna and Genevieve.


Wally Sparks-Varsity Assistant Coach - Offensive Line/ Curriculum Coordinator.

“Wally” started his coaching in 1986 as the offensive line coach for Mt. Zion High School in Illinois. He has a total of 17 years of experience both at the high school and junior football levels. During his 9 years as the O-line coach, Mt. Zion was 73-21 and produced 22 all conference linemen. Coach Sparks is a 1983 graduate of Illinois State University, and was an offensive tackle for the “Redbirds”. Wally, his wife Dana, and their sonCayden live in Chesterfield.

 

Jason Kipp-Junior Varsity  Head Coach

Coach Kipp graduated from Missouri State University in 2010 with a degree in education.  Coach Kipp is currently working at Marquette High School as a long term substitute in the English department and I.S.S. This is will be his 2nd year on the staff at Marquette and will be working with DL.


Kyle Devine- JV Offensive Coordinator - WR/DB

Coach Devine graduated from The John Carroll School in Maryland and played football, basketball, and rugby. He then graduated from the University of Missouri Columbia in May, 2009, with a Bachelor of Science in Education with an emphasis in Biology. Upon graduation Coach Devine taught and coached at Oakville High School where he coached freshman football, JV basketball, and JV baseball for 4 years. This will be his second year at Marquette and will be coaching football and freshman basketball. He will also be teaching Biology. Kyle, his wife Becky, and their daughter Ava reside in Ballwin.

 

Josh Barbo – Assistant Coach - JV Defensive Coord.  DL/TE

Coach Barbo is a 2007 graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia where he was a 2 year letter winner on the Mizzou football team. Josh played tight end and defensive line for the Tiger's but earned his letters on Special Teams. He will be working with the defensive line and tight ends for the Mustangs. This is Josh's first year coaching at Marquette and first year coaching overall. He and his wife Julie currently reside in Fenton with their dog, Annabelle

Ben Hopf - Assistant Coach
Coach Hoph graduated from Jasper High School in Jasper, IN where he played football and basketball for 4 years.  In 2011,  received hisBachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, IN where he also played tight end for the football team.  After working as an engineer at Texas Instruments for 3 years, Coach Hopf decided to change paths and pursue a career in secondary education and coaching.  Coach Hopf has earned his preliminary teaching certificate in Mathematics and am currently working on converting it to a state certificate.  He lives in Chesterfield with his wife, Heather, and 1 year old son, Reid.

 

Tony LaRusso- Head Freshman Coach

Coach LaRusso graduated from Rockhurst University in May of 2003 with a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education with an emphasis in Business. In May of 2012, Coach LaRusso received a Masters degree in Education from Southwest Baptist University. This is Coach LaRusso's 10th year coaching football at Marquette. Coach LaRusso began his coaching career at Marquette as a Freshman assistant coach under the guidance of the legendary Dave Olivo for two seasons. His next 7 years were spent as the JV Head Coach as well as a Varsity assistant. From 2010-2013, The Mustang JV squad posted a record of 33-7, including a conference championship in 2012. He is extremely excited to return to where it all began on the Freshman sidelines in hopes of continuing the tradition of exceptional freshman teams for the Mustangs.  Coach LaRusso teaches Physical Education, Personal Finance, and electives at Rockwood's Individualized Learning Center.

 

Eric Nesbit-Freshman Defensive Coord. - LB's/ WR'S

Coach Nesbit is a resource teacher with Special School District assigned to Marquette High School. He graduated from Missouri Valley College in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary and Special Education. In 1999, Eric earned his Masters degree in Secondary Education Administration from UMSL. He played college football at Missouri Valley College and coached high school football in Boonville, MO and Bowling Green, MO. Coach Nesbit has a wife, Beth, and four children, Erica, Geoffrey, Cassandra and Rachael.

Chris Robin - Assistant Freshman - OL/DL

Coach Robin attended Hazelwood Central where he played 3 years of football. This is my first year at Marquette after graduating from University of Missouri - St. Louis with a K-12 P.E./Health degree. I am currently a member of the Support Staff at Marquette. This will be Coach Robin first year on the staff at Marquette High School.


Dave Trog - Assistant Freshman - QB's

Coach Trog graduated from Marquette in 2003 where he played football. He graduated from the University of Missouri St. Louis with a Bachelor of Arts. He began his coaching career as a volunteer in 2006 at Marquette. He is currently working on his post-baccalaureate teaching certification in secondary education with an emphasis in social studies.
