Manteno Falls To Riverside-Brookfield 3-1

April 8, 2014
By Brent Zhorne of Manteno High School

Manteno Pitcher Kyle Neumann had a good outing but couldn't keep the Panthers (6-2) from falling to Riverside-Brookfield 3-1 in seven innings on the road on Tuesday.

Neumann held Riverside-Brookfield to just one unearned run over four innings, giving up no walks and striking out one Bulldog batter. Though he allowed seven hits, the Panther defense helped keep the bases cleared.

Manteno struck first when Tucker Presler doubled to center field and was driven in by a Lucas Robbins single. That was the only run the Panthers would post.

Riverside-Brookfield tied up the score in the third inning and scored two more in the fifth off reliever Robbins. Manteno was unable to get a serious scoring threat going in the last two innings.

Lucas Robbins (0-2) ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. He stepped in for one inning, walked two, struck out one, and allowed two runs.

The Panthers travel to Sandwich High School on Wednesday for their first conference game of the 2014 season.
