Home » Volleyball NewsPanthers Win Seneca Varsity TourneySeptember 9, 2012 By Cheryl Davis of Manteno High SchoolCongratulations to the Manteno Varsity Volleyball team for taking home the championship trophy this past Saturday at the Seneca Invitational Tournament. The Panthers finished 5-0 for the day defeating Serena 25-14, 25-19, Reed-Custer 25-19, 25-11, and Grant Park 25-18, 25-23 in pool play. After defeating Peotone 25-9, 25-21 in the semi finals, the Panthers beat host team Seneca 27-25, 25-21 in the finals to take first place. Standouts on the weekend included Amber Hopf and Alexis Gilbert with 26 kills each, followed by Maren Wiltshire and Jaylan Dunn with 16 kills each. Jocelyn LeSage had 40 set assists, and 24 digs followed by Courtney Posing with 39 set assists and 20 digs. In the back court, Karli Shields had 41 digs and 5 service aces while Alyssa Snodsmith had 26 digs and 6 service aces. It was a great team effort!! The Panthers are now 13-2 on the year and are in action again this Tuesday at Reed-Custer. Great job Panthers!!
