Varsity Takes Second In Early Bird Tourney

The Manteno Varsity Volleyball team participated in the Manteno Early Bird Tournament this weekend finishing first in their pool with wins over Flanagan, Clifton Central and Grant Park.  The Panthers played a great semi-final match, beating Newark before losing in the finals to a tough Watseka team to take second place in the tournament.  Standouts for the tournament were Alexis Gilbert with 37 kills and 26 digs followed by Amber Hopf with 18 kills, Maren Wiltshire with 16 and Jaylan Dunn with 12.  Jocelyn LeSage had 46 set assists, 6 service aces and 20 digs while Courtney Posing contributed 5 service aces, 35 set assists and 31digs. Karli Shields led in the back court with 39 digs followed by Alyssa Snodsmith with 31and Emma Shores with 14.  Congratulations to Amber Hopf and Alexis Gilbert for being named to the All-Tournament team.  The Panthers are now 7-1 for the season and play Tuesday night at Herscher in the conference opener.
