Manteno uses big second inning to beat Wilmington HS, 8-1

By Brent Zhorne of Manteno High SchoolA six-run explosion in the second inning carried Manteno to an 8-1 win in seven innings over Wilmington at Wilmington on Wednesday.
Second baseman Mark Reardanz blasted a grand slam homer over the fence in left center field in the second inning on his way to racking up four RBIs on two hits for Manteno.
Center fielder J.J. Witherow, right fielder Joey DiLeo and shortstop Kevin Sloat also garnered two hits apiece. Witherow, Sloat and third baseman Billy Liss also smacked doubles in the contest.
Winning pitcher Paul DuFrain racked up six strikeouts, giving up just four hits over five shutout innings.
The win puts Manteno at 25- 2 overall and 9-2 in the Interstate 8 Conference. The Panthers host Plano on Thursday with the first pitch scheduled for 4:30 pm.
