Manteno suffers only second loss on the season

Manteno's nine game winning streak was broken this afternoon as the Panthers lost to Westmont on the road, 6-5.
The Panthers were first on the board, putting up three runs in the first inning and two runs in the third inning, but that's as far as it went. Manteno batters managed only one additional hit in the last four innings. Second baseman Kevin Sloat went 2-for-3 on the day.
The turning point came in the fourth inning. With Manteno leading 5-0, Westmont scored a run on three consective singles. With two outs DuFrain walked the bases loaded. Back-to-back errors by 3B Billy Liss and SS Kevin Sloat allowed three additional Westmont runs to bring the score within one. With Reardanz on the mound in the fifth inning, Westmont put up the go-ahead runs on two singles and a double.
Paul DuFrain started on the mound for Manteno. He gave up 3 hits and 4 runs but only 1 earned run. DuFrain walked 2 and struck out 4 in 3.2 innings of work.
Mark Reardanz (5-1) took over on the rubber, giving up 2 earned runs on 4 hits in 2.1 innings. Reardanz took the loss.
The Panthers slip to 21-2 overall and 5-2 in conference play. They face Reed-Custer on the road next Monday.
